Hi everyone, is there anyway to install openedx insights on the same virtual machine as edx-platform? As I understand it, analytics-api and the pipeline are supposed to run on Hadoop – Hive cluster, or using Amazon’s Elastic map reduce services. Is there any way I can run them locally (for development purposes) or on Google Cloud (for production?) Any help is appreciated

Hello Yafet,
Yes, you can install edX Insight/Analytics/Pipeline on the same Ubuntu Server 16.04 box where Open edX LMS/CMS is running. That is exactly how I am running it for Hawthorn.master (on a VMware guest). The installation steps are quite similar to what is described in the official documentation but not the same.

e.g., before installing Insights, change xqueue port 18040 to something else (e.g. 18044) otherwise yarn nodemanager will collide with the former service.
I need to dig into my gmail to find the exact instruction notes, which I sent to someone back in June,if I find them, I could send them to you, if needed.

Best, L

Thank you very much for the response. I was going through the document (from that link you sent), I was going to try and change the port of xqueue but was weary because I thought that would cause more problems (since there are other services rely on xqueue). But if you have any guides that could help me change the port safely without breaking something else I'd really appreciate it. Thanks.
