Hello,

I don't know anything about programming. I read that the opencog software would enable an avatar that communicates using a webcam and microphone.
Since I am very interested in AI I set out to build the opencog software, really just following instructions at http://wiki.opencog.org/w/Installing_OpenCog_for_Noobs.
I managed to build the cogutils, atomspace and opencog modules and after that I was able to connect to the cogserver as per the instructions.

Once connected the only thing I could do was type 'help', which gave me a list of commands. That was all I could do.

My goal is to have the virtual AI avatar on screen and have a conversation with it.

I also read that  the chatbot is not intelligent at all and can't reason or anything.

So my question is, what to do next to have the intelligent reasoning avatar appear on my screen and have a convesation with it, now that i built the opencog software.

I don't know what to do next. I hope someone can help me.

I don't know how to answer that.

There are some rather old docker containers (and shelll scripts that you can run by hand) that would power up the avatar and hook up the video camera, here: https://github.com/opencog/docker/tree/master/indigo

For some reason, the "opencog for noobs" fails to mention this. No one keeps it up to date.

Opencog is kind of like a box of tinker-toys -- there is a large amount of assembly you'd have to do yourself.

Hooking up language and reasoning is a topic of active research. There's nothing easy there, and without at least basic programming type talents, there's not a lot you can do.
