Hi everyone,

I'm getting closer to giving OpenAPS a real go but I am struggling, psychologically, with switching out my tried-and-trusted Animas (ping then vibe) pump that has been my faithful companion for almost 13 yrs now for the Medtronic that I got my hands on.  I did get a couple of infusion sets with the Medtronic, but only a few.  Has anyone figured out any compatibilities between Animas infusion sets/reservoirs and Medtronic ones?  I realize I will eventually have to figure something out long-term but Im just looking for some quick fixes while I do all the fine-tuning etc..

I k

Two questions..

Which mm pump?  Particularly is it a 7xx or 5xx?

Which infusion set do/did you use with animas?

The Medtronic is a minimed722 and I have a few Quick-set paradigm infusion sets.  My infusion sets for Animas are either comfort short or inset.

Orla,
Because of Minimeds unique reservoirs, I'm pretty sure you won't be able to find interchangeable reservoirs, but we have found that you often can use the same cannula/infusion and swap at the little clip right there at the site. Since you have both you can try it, just unclip your Animas tube at the infusion site and try clipping in a Minimed tube. That makes it a bit easier to switch between the two pumps.

Thanks Tim.  I'll have to examine everything closer as I cant see how the mm cannula I have will go into the animas site or vv.  Perhaps I just need a different mm infusion set.  I have the quick-set paradigm but it looks like the Silhouette might be the one I need, judging by the pictures on the Medtronic website.

Thanks!

Yep, that looks right - you might need the Silhouette. Sorry about that.

Sorry for taking so long to get back to you..

Ok.. with the 7xx models you have TWO options.

If you're used to angled sites, then YES, the silhouette is the paradigm pump equivalent.

BUT, there IS another options.
Minimed DOES sell 3.0ml LUER lock reservoir for the paradigm form pumps.  (it's only offered in 3ml size, so not an option for the 5xx pumps.  Here is the minimed store link to that reservoirs:

https://medtronicdiabetes.secure.force.com/store/reservoirs/luer-lock-reservoir

FIFTY-FIFTY pharmacy also sell them, and now that mm offers them (With a mm part number) other 3rd party suppliers can probably also get them in stock.

The MMT-103A Luer Lock Reservoirs will not work in Paradigm series pumps (such as the 722).  They will only work in pre Paradigm pumps like the 508.  The first pump in the Paradigm series was the 511.

I apologize.

I just looked closer at what minimed is selling (as well as fifty-fifty does now as well) and see these are not the ones that are compatible.

I think the ones that are may not be made anymore :(...

Fifty-fifty used to sell them.  The person who I got a couple boxes of the ones that DO work from (someone who VERY regularly used luer lock reservoirs in her paradigm pumps) told me awhile back that she used the ones mm sells in her paradigm pumps, so I made the mistake of assuming those did work.

Looking at more detail, I see now, that what minimed is selling (based on the limited images) do not have the extra plastic to allow them to screw into the paradigm reservoir area liked the ADR (applied diabetes research) luer lock reservoirs do.

I did another web search for ADR 3070 (the 3.0 ml luer lock for paradigm pumps) and cannot find any reference to them being for sale now.   I'm not even sure Applied Diabetes Research exists anymore - their old domain is dead.

AGain my apologies. I guess this is no longer a viable solution - it once was...

So, yes - the silhouette will be the closest infusion set to what you are used to.  That's what we started on (back when they ONLY offered the 17mm sets too...   We changed to sure-T (contact detach for luer lock) after a few years and have been much happier since doing that - lot less tissue damage and at that time my son could not use the long silhouettes in his belly - they lasted at best 1 day there, so for use changing added his belly as a usable area.  The tubing for the silhouette, sure-t, and contact detach are identical.  I have never had a comfort short in my hand, or inset (30 I assume) to see if they are the same.  If the comfort short is the one that's been around a long time it looks in pictures to be the same minus the holes for the sli-server, but I have not been able to personally test to see if the tubes can be interchange on the inserted infusion set.
