I personally think that the
Fediverse and
Atmosphere are incredible, but only partially what's needed. Standardizing federated identity + friends/subscribers lists is great for sharing posts, but that can't be the ENTIRETY of the Open Web!
I've been tossing around the idea of taking the notion of an open registry of e-commerce vendors and allowing marketplaces to come along and invite/include ANY set of vendors into their marketplaces.
Open registries would hold all sorts of vendors; be ok ND to nee be products, services, pp packages goids, small or big items and all sorts of software, SaaS, until, content, entertainment or anything that sells stuff could all be available. It's all about WHERE DOES THE TRANSACTION HAPPEN!
Vendors would have one profile and catalog, and marketplaces would "render" vendors into their environments via templated layouts.
Customers would then vote with their wallets, choosing to route transactions to vendors via marketplaces and "retail" locations associated with:
• affiliations
• regions
• politics
• NGOs
• philosophies, belief systems, etc.
I just think that limiting the Open Web to content sharing is - limited.
IMHO
