Hi all, hope everyones keeping well, i have an issue that i cant think of what the problem is, so any help appreciated please
ive reverted back to my old camera ie skyris 236m as i was interested in running the new multistar guiding and my old qhy5 wasnt producing enough stars ..so aswell as changing back to the old camera ive changed the new beta version of phd2 2.6.9.dev4.. so ive re calibrated,re run the guiding assistant but more or less as i start guiding the dec starts to overrun itself and plays "chase the star"
im not sure that it will show much as i never got guiding for long
thinking of deleting everything and starting again from scratch

Hi Derek.  In the process of switching guide cameras, it looks like you’ve allowed something to be loose or flopping around.  Here’s one example:

The Dec motor wouldn’t normally be running at all here, yet you can see that the guide assembly abruptly shifted by over 10 arc-sec.  That corresponds to only about 10 microns, 1/5th of the thickness of a human hair.  Because you’re using a guide camera with such extremely tiny pixels, there is an extreme requirement for complete rigidity in everything.

Good luck,

Bruce

Ok, just to be clear – your current problem has nothing to do with guiding or to the fact you upgraded your PHD2 release.  Because of the guide camera you chose and its tiny pixel size, you may find this a frustrating problem to solve – you have just about zero tolerance.

Good luck with it,

Hi Bruce, yes after recalibrating, re doing the guide assitant i did wonder if it was a bug or something.. on a previous version way back when there a guide north, south or auto ,i tried to find that but couldnt see it.. didnt think of an actual physical problem , not had time to look but ive solved the issue in my head.. I did find it strange that it lost the guidestar on calibration even though i could see it..it now all adds up.. thanks for your help

Quick update, i re-secured the guidescope , run the guide assistant, re-calibrated etc and it does the same thing.. guidescope is rock solid, ive used the setup as it is now before without any issues so its nothing to do with tiny pixel size as you put it.so im going to revert back to the stable version rather than the beta..see what happens.. what colour should the calibration button be, mines now yellow, sure it used to be green

You should of course do whatever you want with the software but I think you are starting to flail at this point.  If the calibration button is yellow, it’s trying to tell you something important – hover the mouse over the icon and see what it says.  None of what you’ve described has anything to do with the new release.  If you can’t run the Guiding Assistant for an extended period without getting these big guide star excursions, you have a mechanical problem of some kind.  When the Guiding Assistant is running there is no guiding being done and the mount declination motor isn’t running.

Hope you can get it sorted out,

The guiding assistant didnt Flail, i was able to run it and apply the settings.. the calibration button was yellow which id either never noticed or is something new, and as you know isnt connected to the guiding assistant.. on its calibration it did lose the star on the i think third step, which again is something new..i really hope i havent got a mechanical fault with my mount, ive had more than enough trouble with a previous mount and so far more than happy with this one.. more tests tonight then, thanks for the heads up
