Hi,

I'm trying to figure out how to connect my pegasus falcon rotator to phd2, to avoid to recalibrate when rotating. I'm using Linux Mint and indi drivers. Under the "rotator" drop down menu I only see the simulator rotator (or None). I cannot choose the falcon. It doesn't appear. The rotator is properly detected by the imaging software (ekos) and works fine.

Sorry I forgot to mention I'm using an oag after the rotator, hence my question.

Have you installed the driver for the Falcon?

Yes, sure. The device is working properly with ekos

More info. I'm running linux mint 20.03 (ubuntu 20.04 based). I upgraded phd2 to the latest version 2.6.11.rev20230116. Same issue. I tried also the wizard, which now asks for an (optional) rotator. The falcon does not show in the drop-down menu. Only None and Simulator.

As stated, the rotator is detected and fully functional under ekos. Indi driver of course loaded and present on the indi control panel:

But phd2 does not allow to select it:

At the moment INDI rotator are not implemented in PHD2, there is only interface for mount, camera and AO.

omg, that's actually a very very bad news! does that mean that I need to recalibrate every time I rotate?!

Dear phd2 developers,

It would be very nice to add indi rotator support to phd2. I'm running a fully automated setup, and normally I image several objects during the night. I'm currently testing and the only workaround I've found is to command to ekos to recalibrate after a slew. That's clearly not optimal: 1) the calibration may fail for whatever reason and lose the whole session; 2) if I image near the pole, the calibration may not be as good as it should be; 3) I could waste too much time.

I would please request to include such support.

I second this request!  I have a Pegasus Falcon rotator that works great with INDI/Ekos.  Definitely don't want to recalibrate every slew/rotate.  I do often image at the pole, too.  Support for an INDI rotator would be MUCH appreciated!

Excellent!  However, I can't seem to get it to work.  2.6.12 on Ubuntu says "ASCOM or INDI-compatible rotator device," but the only selection available is "Simulator".  The rotator is connected and powered.  Any ideas?

Is it possible that PHD2 is specifically looking for a driver called 'indi_rotator'?  I have a Pegasus Falcon rotator and I noticed that the driver is called 'indi_falcon_rotator'.  Is this why PHD2 isn't seeing it as a valid rotator equipment?

I also notice several rotator drivers (I assume) in /usr/bin.  Why isn't the pull-down menu in PHD2 populated with these five items?

Looks to me like ticket/pull #1091 isn't merged.  I built from source and get the same result.  No INDI rotators.

I pulled your indi-rotator PR and merged it with my local master and now I can connect to my INDI rotator!  Now, need some good weather and see if it works!

Are you sure you downloaded the correct branch? Just to be sure, download this zip: https://codeload.github.com/comptonizing/phd2/zip/refs/heads/indi-rotator

then unzip and follow the instructions (mkdir tmp; cd tmp; cmake ..; make): https://raw.githubusercontent.com/wiki/OpenPHDGuiding/phd2/BuildingPHD2OnLinux.md
