Hi.

I have uploaded the non-guiding log files and here is also a link: https://openphdguiding.org/logs/dl/PHD2_logs_cra8.zip.

I have been troubleshooting this issue for a while and am not able to resolve it. During the weeks of troubleshooting I have done a lot of things including checking on cables, checking on USB hubs, using a different PC, etc. I am able to generate dark libraries, and am testing now for sustainability during daylight so I don't have to bother with it during imaging session. Hopefully the log files are of some use.

I appreciate any insight into what the cause could be.

Hi Farzad

the log file is empty

Can you describe what is the problem you are having?

Hi Brian.

I don't know why the log file should be empty although I trust you. I inspected them myself before reaching out for help and there was some information in there. I have attached the package that was supposed to be loaded via Help to this message. Please note that since then I have done other troubleshooting with similar results.

The problem is a "QHY get frame failed" while making darks, or while looping, after a while PHD2 says it has lost contact with the camera and it will try again. That one is the one I sent the log file of.

I have tried everything possible. The same camera attached to a Win10 PC with the same edition of PHD2 works flawlessly, but with Windows 11 I have had nothing but trouble with this camera. My ASI120 works fine though, but that is my backup.

Thanks a lot.

You say you "checked on cables". Does that mean you replaced the camera cable with a new (or known good) one? Whenever things start acting flaky for me, it's usually a cable issue, and it's not worth my time to mess with them; I just replace with a good-quality new one.

Yes, I meant to say that I replaced one cable with another and was not able to resolve the issue.

Hi Farzad

Camera connection issues are typically outside of PHD's realm. you should consult the troubleshooting section of the manual and make sure you are using the latest drivers from QHY.

Owning a QHY 5II myself, I recall they revamped their driver software fairly recently (within the year) and came out with the unified driver. It also has a number of options available for connecting, so make sure to connect with the right one.

Well, I have already worked everything else out such as making sure the drivers are updated, cables are sound, the computer is working, USB ports are not falling asleep, etc.

In search of an answer I found a discussion PHD2 was having with someone else with the same issue on a google group somewhere and I thought I would submit my issue.

So, you are saying that in the log files you are not seeing anything that can help me figure out what the issue could be, driver, cabling, computer, etc. Is that correct?

well again, the things that are of interest on how to solve this are happening outside of PHD

here's a few lines from the debug log, it just reports the camera disconnects:

09:42:10.693 00.000 1600 Enqueuing Expose request
...
09:42:44.499 00.000 1600 Status Line: Camera Disconnected
09:42:44.514 00.015 1600 Alert: QHY get frame failed
PHD will make several attempts to re-connect the camera.
...
09:42:45.749 00.000 1600 Status Line: Camera Connected

after that it does expose one frame correctly, but it was a very short debug log, and it looks like you stopped PHD2 after that

Bruce may have more to offer here, but connection issues aren't happening inside of PHD, something external is disconnecting. If your backup camera is working correctly with PHD2, that is a good sign it's somewhere else

Thanks. I stopped the process because nothing else was going on and since I am not guiding.

okay, that makes sense. But you can also see all there is available to PHD is "camera disconnected" which doesn't offer any detail as to what the problem is

From my experience often times it's the software configuration and selecting the right driver that has solved it for me in the past, but it's going to require some experimentation on your part to find the recipe that works for you

good luck

If your drivers offer an option to reduce USB speed you should test that approach

Thanks. The ASCOM drivers do provide that option, and I have tried it although with the test PC there is nothing else but a keyboard and mouse that are connected to the PC, so there isn't that much USB traffic, and the ASCOM driver fails almost right away.

Success
Hello All, After about a month of struggle, I have finally fixed my Get Frames failed issue with PHD2 and Qhy 5L-iic. I looks like I had an old driver that may have been causing the issue. The guide cam was working fine on all other computer but my Mini  PC so I knew it was isolated to the Mele Mini PC . This was all suggested by QHY Support.  I used this process below.
  1. You  first turn core isolation OFF. Search for Core isolation on your computer and you should find it. This is a Windows matter, so there are lots of pointers to be found on the web how to do this. I turned both boxes to off at this location.
  2. I first uninstalled all QHY programs from the basic installed apps on window.
  3. Next,Go to this Site https://windowsreport.com/wdcsam64_prewin8-sys/ and follow scroll down to 1. Remove the driver using the DISM and PNPUtil tool. You don't need to down the Restore pc Repair tool.Follow these steps by removing all QHY listed drivers completely. Use a copy and paste method to go faster, and not type it out each time. Restart computer. Go and look to see if you have any remaining QHY drivers installed. by using the dism /online /get-drivers /format:table. I did not have any QHY drivers showing up after doing this process.
  4. Then I installed the Stable version of the QHY STABLE VER. 20220817
After this process I have not seen the Get frames failed message. I haven't tested this on clear skies but feel this has done the trick.  I hope this will help other.

Jeez, what a mess - this is something that an end-user shouldn't have to deal with. :-(  Thanks for reporting on your experience.
