Hello,

Increasingly, I have been experiencing error messages stating that the telescope has disconnected when it clearly hasn't.

I receive  a similar error in Sequence Generator Pro, so my assumption is that the error is coming from the PlaneWave software or more likely the ASCOM driver.

I've attached a screenshot of the first error I could find from last night's guiding as well as the full Debug log.

Any ideas would be much appreciated!

Thanks,
Temu

This is probably a bug in the ASCOM driver, as you say, or perhaps a problem with the serial-USB connector you’re using to connect to the mount.  The error is being reported from the ASCOM driver and is simply being percolated up to client apps like PHD2 and SGP.  If you want to trouble-shoot this during the day, you can use this diagnostics tool, it will let you issue ASCOM pulse-guide commands without needing PHD2 or a guide star:

Good luck, let us know what you find out.

Hi Temu.  There is one other thing I should have mentioned.  You should also make sure that Windows isn't cutting power to the USB port that's connected to the scope.  This has become an increasing PITA with ongoing releases of Windows 10.  It's called "USB selective suspend" and the only sure way to disable it in recent releases seems to be through the Windows Device Manager.  Open up the USB subsystem group, find an entry that is labelled as some form of "hub", then right-click on that to get a properties dialog.  The dialog will have a power management tab, and that's where you can tell Windows to quit doing the power suspension.  Don't know if this has anything to do with your problem but it's something new we have to be aware of.

Hello Bruce,

This is great advice, and thanks for the tool! I'll see what I can do and whether it makes any difference!
