Hello Forum,
I am a beginner and am setting up equipment for the first time. At the end of the PHD2 setup wizard there is an option to create Dark Frames. When doing so PHD2 repeatedly loses connection to the camera and fails to complete creating the Dark Frames. See below error message.
The guide camera is an ASI290 mini and is connected to the ASI294MC Pro main camera “USB 2.0 out” port. The ASI294 MC Pro is then connected to the PC via the USB 3.0 B IN port.
Any suggestions or guidance on how to fix would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
EdK

Hi Edwin. This is a common connectivity problem – nothing to do with PHD2 - and you’ll probably need to do some trouble-shooting to find and correct it. There’s some specific suggestions in the trouble-shooting section of the manual:
https://openphdguiding.org/man/Trouble_shooting.htm#Problems-_Camera_Timeouts
I wonder if you’ve spent enough time studying the documentation and the available support resources. Guiding is a challenging business, not the sort of thing you can just dive into without a lot of self-learning. In addition to the manual, which you should read carefully, there are other important references:
Getting Help:
https://openphdguiding.org/getting-help/
Best practices:
https://openphdguiding.org/phd2-best-practices/
Just so you know, the snippet you posted in your message isn’t an “error” log – it’s part of the guide log which is used to analyze performance once you’re up and running. When you need help, you should always use the built-in log uploader facility to post *all* of the relevant log information – not just isolated parts of it. Again, this is all explained in the manual.
Good luck,
Bruce

Thank you for your continued support while I learn the system. I believe, with your help, that I now understand how to properly pose questions and include supporting documentation. For whatever reason PhD2 is now again successfully maintaining the connection to the camera and building a library of Dark Frames. In looking at the logs, both Debug and Guide, it appears that PhD2 senses the photo camera (ASI294MC Pro) as the guide camera instead of the actual guide camera (ASI 290mm mini). As this is a separate issue I will post separately.
Again
Thank you very much as I learn the system.
