Can someone please help me get PHD2 to connect  in Windows 10.
I know little about PC's but I just can not get it to connect.

Hi Trevor,

Curious what model QHY?  I use the QHY5L-II-C and at times everything else connected will work with the exception of this camera.
This last time I had issues I tried several things but what seems to remedy it was running the system memory
check on my laptop.  The error I was seeing PHD2 was related to corrupted memory... so this seemed to fix it this time.

Here's the things I have done at one time or another to get the QHY camera working again.
One time the driver did it by downloading and installing latest driver (again).

Another option: run DEVICE MANAGER on your pc to look for hidden ports or ports no longer used etc and delete them.
Steps: Device Manager, View, Show hidden devices and look in the USB section or you might have an astrogear section I don't remember right now...
and look for items listed that are greyed out.  Those devices no longer exist.

This may be of no help to you it's just what I have learned.  I've had issues a couple of times and it's cut my night short or actually never even let my night start till I learned
how to detect the camera connection problems.

For reference I am using a 4-port mini USB hub, where I have the HEQ5 mount connected via EQMOD ASCOM, the QHY guide camera
and my Polemaster camera all connected.  Most times there's no problem but if I do something out of the norm with my laptop (such as video capture from my handycam or
other...) it tends to cause the laptop some cornfusion is all I can figure.

Someone else with some smarts will chime in hopefully!

Hi Dan

Thanks for taking the time to reply.
Mine is also a QHY5L-II-C. I will certainly have a look at what you suggest. As you say - it could be anything. Very frustrating when it should just work!
I too use EQMOD on an NEQ6 mount. All was fine on my old laptop but since upgrading to Win 10 is has caused all sorts of problems for me trying to get back up to speed.
Digging around is the scary part as I don't know much about the "innards" of the system!

Kind Regards

Trevor

Hi trevor
I have a lower spec QHY5 and it often loads as an  'unknow device' in device manager. The only way of getting rid of it was uninstalling  from device manager and doing a proper shut down, then restart to clear the fault, then make sure you have a short cable and your laptop on AC when you plug the QHY5 in for the first time. It should say something like astroimaging equipment in device manager when loaded correctly

Trevor,
Have you tried selecting "QHY Camera" in PHD2 rather than the QHY ASCOM camera selection?  This will use the native QHY camera support built-in to PHD2 and will bypass the QHY ASCOM driver.  If that still does not work, you'll need to diagnose why the camera is not working with Windows. Often this the failure to see the camera indicates a problem with the QHY camera drivers (make sure you have the latest version installed, and you can even try reinstalling the drivers), or else a hardware-related problem like a marginal or faulty USB cable (try swapping the cable and/or trying different USB ports on the PC.)
For problems with the QHY ASCOM driver itself, your best bet may be to contact QHY for help as they are the developers of the ASCOM driver and are the ones in the best position to provide support for it.

I have reloaded the drivers etc.  The only camera selection that enables the tool setting beside the Connect button is CMOS QHY5LII Camera (ASCOM) and when I click this I get the Configuration window shown in my screen grab. Am I getting any closer? Is there any way to test further as chances of clear sky at this time i.e.: are there any settings to show that the camera and PHD2 are active?

Well "CMOS QHY5LII Camera (ASCOM)" is the selection to use the QHY ASCOM driver.  The idea was to bypass the ASCOM driver in order to rule out any possible ASCOM driver problem.

PHD2 can connect to the QHY camera directly if you select "QHY Camera" from the drop-down list.  Select QHY Camera and then click the connect button.  If that still does not work, see the suggestions in the prior post.

You can work out your camera connection issues in the daytime, not necessary to waste any dark sky time.  However you will need dark sky time to work out the camera focus after the connection issues have been resolved.

Still nothing.
Is there a way to check if the Camera itself is OK? When I attach the little red light is solid. I have tried it in EZPlanetary and I do not see anything. Also tried MetaGuide - PC seeing my internal camera and attache web cam but this is all becoming a bit tedious.

If I could just determine if the camera is OK before I think about purchasing another.

Update: I found the original driver disc for the QHY5 and loaded the drivers - from instructions this includes an A and B Driver process. In Device Manager the Camera appears to be connected - see my screen grabs. Does the New or updated driver include 2 parts for Windows 10 - it is pretty confusing. If the Camera appears to be mounting - don't understand why I can't get ti to show in any of the astro software to test.

Have you tried QHY support or a user group? this seems very specific to getting a QHY camera working, you might get better answers where people are more familiar with QHY camera setup

Hi Brian

Yes their registration is not working just now but I will try again. All was well with XP!

Hate it when things that should work - don't!

Thanks

Hi Trevor
It should say astroimaging equipment in device manager. If not it won't work. Does it say unknown driver. If so uninstall it from device manager.
The QHY5 driver is one their website under 'other drivers not listed here'. (I've downloaded the qhy5v driver in the hope the QHY driver listed in the PHD2  drop-down menu will work but it didn't) . This still leaves you with the window wmd? driver that usually works ( if it only says 640 X 480 it won't ) or the ascom driver which has less controls but was better than the wmd driver

Thanks All

It appears that my camera is dead! Had QHY team view to confirm what problem was - best look for a new guide camera - any suggestions - bit wary about QHY5 again!

No red light or signal noise even if you push it up to over 1 second and over 900 gain?

Could it just be incorrectly loading an unknown device in device manager

QHY5 can be reflashed. I know since I bought two Orion SSAG guiders that are actually QHY5's. Following the instructions I reflashed my SSAG's to QHY5 and they both worked.b QHY has the instructions on their website.

Thanks Ralph . What improvement do you think it would make? Would it work better with PHD 2? At the moment the QHY camera in the choice menu doesn't work with my version of QHY 5
