I just bought a ASI 120MM-mini and I would like to use it on a Mac Book Pro (Catalina) with PHD2 guiding program (version 2.6.9).
As soon as I try to install the camera (choosing in the menu ZWO ASI camera), the PHD2 program crashes.
On the other hand, ASI Studio suite works correctly.
Any suggestion ? Thanks a lot

Sorry you’re having trouble.  Our support capabilities on the Mac are a bit limited now but you can start the process by submitting your *debug* log file:

https://openphdguiding.org/getting-help/

As far as we know, what you’re trying to do should work.

I remember having had a similar problem a while ago with an earlier version of PHD2 (probably 2.6.7), a different camera (QHY5III-290M) and Catalina running on a 2018 MBP. PHD2 would recognize the camera and let me select it in the equipment connection menu but on closing the equipment connection pane the application would crash.  I recall the last message in the debug logs always was around communication to the camera (in my case setting the value for camera gain).

After trying out a few things I eventually was successful in reliably connecting the camera through KStars/Ecos/Indi and then using the Indi Camera option in PHD2.

Reading this post I just tried to reproduce the problem on my system (now upgraded to PHD2 2.6.9d3 and OSX 11.1 Big Sur) and found that now I can connect the camera directly to PHD2, loop and take an dark frame library.

Hope this helps...

Niels

Thanks for helping out Niels – we’re pretty thin on Mac trouble-shooting these days…

Thank you for the help.
I confirm you that on Catalina, even with latest 2.6.9dev3 [64 bit], the program crashes
when installing the ASI120MM mini.
I will try to pick-up the log file.

On the other hand, on a older MAC with a 32 bit OS, version 2.6.9 works perfectly.
Thanks a lot again for the support

For what it’s worth I found one of the old logs from when this happened to me:

https://openphdguiding.org/logs/dl/PHD2_logs_uX9e.zip

Last entry from before the crash was at 22:43:57.708 and I relaunched at  22:44:20.

22:43:57.707 00.051 4715756992 GearDialog::EndModal: imageScaleRatio changed
22:43:57.708 00.001 4715756992 initializing cam saturation ADU val to 65535
22:44:20.721 00.189 4822441408 PHD2 version 2.6.8 begins execution with:
22:44:20.722 00.001 4822441408    macOS Catalina Version 10.15.4 (Build 19E287)

It doesn’t look to me that there is much to go after and I also don’t want to hijack this thread. But since I came across the log I thought I might as well share it. And if it helps here is also the successful one from today:

Finally I got the log file. Hw used: Ioptron CEM40 [through server Indigo]
and ASI 120 MM mini. None of them work under Catalina, both ok
under 32-bit PHD2 version
Thanks for the help

The log doesn't show anything, you never connected PHD2 to the camera or
tried taking exposures. You need to use the PHD2 log uploader facility
(Help menu) and be careful to choose a time period when you actually
encountered the problem you're talking about.
