Cyclops LED Drivers for sale?

The Open Ephys Store lists the assembled Cyclops LED Drivers as "Sold Out"--any chance more will be coming? They are awesome...

Hi Jeff,

Glad you like it! We’re currently revising the design as part of Google Summer of Code, and we’re going to wait until those changes are finished before manufacturing more (hopefully by the end of the summer). The current designs still work fine, however, so in the meantime you can get those produced by CircuitHub or any PCB assembly house.

Thanks, Jeff. Makes me feel good :).

I'm finishing up revisions on the latest version of the board, which, as Josh mentioned, I'm developing along with a Google Summer of Code Mentee (Ananya Bahadur). He is doing a fantastic job of integrating the cyclops with the OE GUI and I'm making the necessary layout changes to support a much more powerful microcontroller (don't worry beta users, your's will work too but will be limited to a single optical channel).   

I have just put the finishing touches on the new board and I will be sending the designs out for fabrication in the next couple days. There will then be about a 4 week period of waiting and subsequent testing and revision. After that, we should be ready to have another round assembled and sold on the store. I would estimate that this will happen by the end of August.

Following this thread with great interest--any update on delivery dates? 

I'd love to try out Cyclops as a driver for Fiber Photometry applications. The low THD should translate into real performance improvements when using lock-in techniques.

Hi Tom,

That is a great idea -- I would love if this device could be useful for things other than optogenetic stimulation. If you want to discuss how to make this happen more directly, we should talk on skype or something.

The status is as follows:

1. The new PCB is design and assembled. This process revealed a couple bugs and design inadequacies (having to do with the DC-DC converter) that I have managed to fix via bodged in replacements etc (see picture). These changes have be incorporated into the design but the new final test PCB has not been fabricated yet.

2. The performance of the device (with bodges) is very good. The following image shows the device producing a 100kHz triangle wave (yellow trace: ref voltage, blue trace: amplified photodiode output, pink trace: LED current showing significant distortion to achieve linear optical operation).

I'm very busy these days so its tempting to just go to production with these tests done. But the corrections are significant enough that I'm wary of producing a hundred or so of these devices without doing one final fab run. This will push things back a couple weeks. For this reason, I would reasonably expect to send out the bulk order by Oct 1 and to have devices for sale sometime in Oct.

I'm sorry about the delay. I have had a couple really troubling bugs that I wanted to fix before I felt comfortable going through with mass manufacture. I've handled all but one of those. This has been combined with a complete lack of "hobby" time right now...

I'd like to say I'll have it sorted in a week and then we can get the things made, but I've said things like that before and I've been wrong. I hope everyone understands :).
