Good morning, I am doing my PhD and this is the first time I am dealing with Open Ephys. My interest is in studying how many seizures occur over 24 hours in EEG and EMG recordings from certain animal models.

I have the log files and am more or less being able to work with the GUI software. I would like to know if it is possible to set a threshold and have Open Ephys calculate over the 24 hours of recording how many times my signal exceeds that threshold. I don't know if I have to use Matlab for this or if there is a way to do it with Open Ephys.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Best regards,

Jaime

Hi Jaime,

It sounds like the Crossing Detector plugin could help with your application. That allows you to specific a threshold for one channel, and it will emit an event whenever the threshold is crossed.

The Crossing Detector has previously been combined with the Multi-Band Integrator with the specific goal of detecting seizure events in real time. This will probably be more robust than using the Crossing Detector alone, because the Multi-Band Integrator filters the data in seizure-specific frequency bands, rather than using the raw signal. You can test it out by replaying some pre-recorded data through your signal chain using the File Reader.
