Hi All,
I just purchased a new Intan RHD 512 channel recording system and am having issues with getting Open Ephys GUI software to recognize it. The software says:

"Scanning USB for Opal Kelly devices...

Found 1 Opal Kelly device connected:
Device #1: Opal Kelly UNKNOWN with serial number...
No XEM6310-LX45 Opal Kelly board found."

I believe the issue is that my new Intan RHD system has a newer FPGA, as the device manager lists XEM7310. It looks like the XEM6130 devices are now listed as "end-of-life" on the Opal Kelly website.

Does the GUI software not presently support the newer FPGAs?

We have an older Intan RHD system that works with open ephys  GUI without issue. Also, the new system works fine using the software supplied by Intan.

Has anyone else experienced this issue? If so, is there any potential work around?

Thanks for any info you can provide,

Jay

Hi Jay,

You're right that controllers using the XEM7310 FPGAs will not currently work with the GUI, but it shouldn't be too hard to add support for them. I opened an Issue to track progress here: https://github.com/open-ephys-plugins/rhythm-plugins/issues/7

Are you able to help with testing once we have an updated plugin available?

Josh

Josh,
Thanks for looking into this.
Of course I would be happy to help with testing.

Hey Josh,
I have been able to test your fix, and all appears to be working for recording signals from a headstage, TTL inputs and AUX signals. Unfortunately, the plugin will not enable analog signals. If you hit the button, the analog signals will be added to your recording, but the analog input channels are not enable on the recording device, so they all appear as dead channels. This issue appears to extend to all of the Intan units we have in the lab, which includes an eval board and RHD recording system with the older FPGA.
An older version of GUI software we have (0.5.5) with an older version of plugin (Intan Rec Controller) enables the analog inputs just fine, but not with the newer version with new plugins (RHD Recording Controller & Acquisition Board).
Is there any way get around this issue?

Thanks again for all of your help,
Jay
