Hi all,

With the shutdown of the Google Civic Information API, a group of us has started talking about collaborating to collect the data. There are about 50 people who have been talking through how to replace the API.  Most likely under the existing OpenStates umbrella. We have a few questions about Open Civic Data  U.S. division identifiers and how they are maintained. Is there anyone in this group who knows who the current maintainers are of the repo? Anyone available to chat with the group?

I'm a maintainer of https://github.com/opencivicdata/ocd-division-ids and one of the admins for that GitHub org.

Broadly speaking, anyone can contribute, and two maintainers must review (and, anyone can become a maintainer if they consistently make high-quality contributions).

Happy to answer any questions :)

Huzzah! Wonderful. Thank you for getting back to me. Do you know how often the division identifiers are updated? That was the main question the group out as they consider building on OCD IDs.

For example, I'm assuming they were updated after the 2020 census redistricting. How are they updated between redistricting and where do you get your source data from?

Finally, there's a whole group of people who may be willing to contribute to the work that you are doing. Some are more or less technical. And a bunch of new projects!

Is it OK for me to share the link above, of course, as well as your contact information with the group?

Many kind thanks,

Kas Stohr

Hi Kas,

Could you post your questions as an issue in https://github.com/opencivicdata/ocd-division-ids/issues ? That way other maintainers can participate (Google and Center for Technology and Civic Life).

You can certainly share the links. It is best to otherwise communicate through the GitHub repository, as the other maintainers have been more active for the US.

Cheers,

James,

Are Google and the Center for Technology and Civic Life still actively maintaining OCDids? That was our big question. Yeah I can certainly post the question to Github and paste the answer back into the Unified group... I saw you requested and invite and sent an invite code your way. I hope you will join the group as I am guessing you can help us get form a to b a bit faster.

Cheers,

kas

Google is active. I haven't been in touch with CTCL recently. Please communicate further via GitHub.
