In the lightening round at first meetup I mentioned a hoped for goal of Open Bermuda.A place where anyone looking to learn to code would have a community to get some guidance from.
Raspberry Pi is a great option for this. The barrier of entry is negligible and that is fantastic thing!
I know some folks mentioned they had no prior experience in programming and were simply looking to learn.
Another similar suggestion is demonstrating / teaching how to take an existing machine (clapped out), clean it down, install a new operating system (linux? - ubunto?) and create an environment (python?) in which to write your first line of code.
To that end I selfishly have a malware infested DELL windows machine that I would gladly donate to the cause.
Ran this past a few folks at the 2nd meeting and think we are good to go.
A little workshop for anyone interested to see how to do this. As I mention I'm selfishly donating my machine so I'd gladly take pointers on how to do this.
I've attacked a few pictures of the machine in question. Lets not worry about addressing the existing malware if anyone knows how but rather blow this away and start again fresh on linux.
I can bring machine with power cord + keyboard + mouse + (USB & CD) with the ubuntu .iso shown
Hopefully someone can provide the projector/monitor.
Looking forward to it.
