Looking forward to this and how it may develop.

When we chatted last one of your thoughts related to helping introduce python to beginners on the Island.
I have enjoyed undertaking a couple of courses on coursera.org in the past year.
I see some python courses coming up in the weeks ahead. https://www.coursera.org/courses?search=python
There are also other relating to R / Data Analysis and Models. Just throwing out the thought as one aspect of this endeavour.

Thanks Graham.   Coursera is a great idea.

Teaching people in Bermuda about open source is a big part of what I am hoping to do + coursera looks like it can definitely help with that.

Basic idea is:

a. have fun
b. learn from each other
c. start some projects here in Bermuda
d. whatever the people turning up at the group want to do.

Eventually hoping to get a place where people can get together to work on projects and learn from each other.

If you want ideas for projects just ask.   Some of the early projects involve getting systems up and running so we can share ideas etc.

I would also like to try and arrange some small conferences here, things like the PyData conferences.   I think we can get some good people to come to the island and talk at these conferences.

We have this group and I have set up an openbermuda organisation on github: https://github.com/openbermuda

I was thinking last night we might want to create something like the python enhancement proposal (PEP) system: http://legacy.python.org/dev/peps/

These could be called BEP's:  Bermuda Enhancement Proposals.   So people could write a short proposal to see if there are others interested in their projects.

Nice work, guys. Duncan just appraised me of the efforts. I'll make sure to come by on the 20th

Thanks for those links! Checking out a few courses on Coursera now.  Hoping to come tomorrow. I have very little coding experience.

Well done for setting this up, its great to see something like this on island. I probably won't be able to attend unfortunately, as its my last week on island and I'm normally sailing on a Wednesday.

Best of luck everyone!

Hi,

Was there a meeting today?

I came by the Chamber of Commerce on Front St. around 6:10pm and the door was locked.

Cheers,

Louis

Hey Louis,

No, there was no meeting last night. Sorry for your inconvenience!

Perhaps someone (Eek, I feel like I am volunteering myself...) should be in charge of sending out a weekly email about what's happening and if there is a meetup of not.

But of course having to go check that page every five minutes to see if there is a meetup isn't very nice, so an email would be best.

Confluence actually has a feature called Team Calendars that we could use, it would make it visually easy to see when a meeting is happening…or not happening.
