Hi everyone!

If you have DVD/Blu-rays/Music CDs in your collection I have a few questions about processing if you have time!

If you repackage into new cases what kind of cases do you use/where do you get them from?
Do you lock your cases?
How many RFID tags do you use?
What do you do with discarded cases, does anyone have a source for recycling?

Happy Friday!
Diana

Query  I am trying to get the RDA under control at our library - I am entering in the 040 - large print/graphic- are there other things that should/could go in there.  I just recatalogued a High/Interest item - should something be put there?

Hi Diana

Space is at a premium here so we repackage our DVDs/Blu-rays into a thin case which is placed in a display sleeve. We used to keep the discs behind the desk, but we stopped that practice about 10 years ago. There has been no significant theft issue since we made this change

We use 1 RFID tag that is made specifically for discs and it is placed on the disc. This type of label cannot be used on double sided discs; in that case we use a regular RFID tag that is placed inside the description in the display case.

I don't  know where we get the supplies, but l can find out if you are interested in going this route.

Our local recycling program accepts the discarded cases for recycling.

I have attached picture of the packaging we use. If you zoom in, you will be able to see the RFID tag on the disc.

Michael

Hi Diana, NFPL keeps them in the cases provided by our vendor (CVS, fully processed). We have a supply of cases on hand for when they need to be replaced or we're repackaging something purchased elsewhere or donated. I think we buy them from Brodart.
Our cases are not locked. We used to use the yellow bars on locking cases but gave that up some time ago.
The first disc is stingrayed while the remainder in a set has a doughnut label with our name and the disc info to brand it as ours.
We reuse cases in good condition but simply recycle discards - we're a mid-sized system so the amount at one time is never huge.

Music CDs are the same - fully processed from our vendor, not locked, and we have a supply of spares on hand.

Have a good weekend!
t.
