Hey OPFS folks!

I just got word from the current Gryphcon coordinators that they just got the go-ahead for running the convention this April. The website just got set to 2023 and registration + game submission is live. If you're interested, the website is http://gryphcon.org

Cheers,

Dan (Gryphcon Webmaster)

I'm still thinking about this. Amongst my issues are
1) Is there going to be any demand for PF2 (the only PFS game I'm willing to run at this point)? If I did go, would any of you show up?
2) IS there anybody from Toronto going that I could bum a ride with? I don't own a car and the only public transport these days is GO which would get me there too late for the 1st session. So I'd be spending a VERY long day to just run two sessions AND I'd get home quite late. Getting a ride from SOMEWHERE with TTC access would make the option much more attractive
3) Anybody else at all interested in running anything (PF1, Starfinder, PF2, ACG)?

What level of familiarity would we need for the 2e games?  I'm really only familiar with PF1e and a bit of SF, but I'd be up to try 2e for a one-shot if enthusiastic greenhorns are allowed.

Paul, I'd be coming from the GTA and could give a ride, though I'm not sure how late I would be planning to stay.

Hi everyone,

I know at least 9 people who are going to go for Pathfinder 2 society. We just threw up a bunch of blank slots today (they just say Pathfinder society adventure TBD) and 2 people have already signed up (who aren't part of that 9).

There's a bunch of interest here. If you come down with adventures and admin, I can help round out the GM's with experienced 2nd players (there's multiple 2nd campaigns going on just in my friend groups).

Hi.

When would you update on what scenarios would actually be run?

I have played most society scenarios, and mainly just want to meet local gamers because I just moved here, so I'm willing to sit in ones with no credit, though I should give spots to people who haven't played first.

That depends on if we get support from the Pathfinder Society. Hopefully soon.

Feel free to sign-up now (to demonstrate interest) and then move if you want when the actual games are released.

Yes, if there are games I'll definitely play them, it's been a long time.

And I'll probably GM 1-2 slots as well. I have a fair size backlog of scenarios I've already run, mostly season 1 however. I'll put out a catalog and run whatever people want.

I'm glad the Guelph crew is leading the way here!

We have a lot of interest in PF2, I know of multiple people who are coming and can run games. What we really new is access to adventures (we can just buy them all but if we can get them from the Society that's better) and help with the Society administration.

So Paul, I'm hoping you'll reconsider coming down now that you have a ride and that it's going to be worth it (numbers wise).

Thanks,

Matt

I've gotten a ride so I will be there Saturday for the first 2 sessions. I'm definitely willing to run 2 games then if you want me to.

There is no way at this point that we'd be able to jump through the hoops to get Paizo to give us free stuff (I've jumped through those hoops in the past :-() I'll try anyway in case I'm wrong but don't expect too much,

However, I WILL bring some hard copies of a few scenarios with me (together with chronicle sheets) Those I can hand out Saturday morning so only people running Friday night will need to buy their own (or get them from somebody who has them) assuming there is somewhere I can leave the scenarios so people can pick them up Saturday night and Sunday.

I'm willing to help as much as I can with the society administration, Will we have internet access on site? If we do, there is a WONDERFUL program to make the administration chores  very simple. If not, we can do it the old fashioned way :-(.

The wonderful tool is rpgchronicles (free). If a gm creates a game there and either gets the players to sign in OR signs them up it creates chronicles, calculates gold, and gets the reporting information in a ready to cut and paste method.

The key things are:
1) There needs to be an event number, I'll create that event
2) Any players who wish to receive PFS credit MUST have a PFS number. These are totally free. Players can acquire one before the game by going to the paizo website. I'll bring signup cards for people (gives them a number, lets them sign up afterwards) with me Saturday morning. Note that players are completely free to play without the PFS number but if they do they will just not receive PFS credit. Same for GMs.
3) All games must be recorded. I can do that as long as information is collected and forwarded to me.
The Information required is Name, Character Name, faction for GM and players. Default Faction is probably Horizon Hunters (mechanically the best :-))

I'll make suggestions as to which scenarios we run later today.

By the way, SFS (Starfinder Society) is also still active if somebody wants to run games in that. I'm definitely a PF2 person myself but Starfinder IS a good game for those who like Orcs In Space type games :-)

Thanks Paul,

That is a huge help. If you recommend games I'll send an email to all the GM's and we can start organizing. Does any one on this list have any adventures they can add? Especially pdf's they can send?

Regarding scenarios, most can be downloaded by using just internet searching on the scenario name followed by "PDF".

I have however bought a number of scenarios which I can share with the group if needed. I have Matt's email, just let me know which scenarios you need.

Hopefully other scenarios will be run since I've GMed or played most of these. :(

HI all,

We've added new sessions for Friday and Sunday, as the others were full.

Paul do you have an eta on your recommendations?

Jason, on another note, you've played most of these scenario's do you have any recommendations? Probably a bunch of intro's with some 3-6's.

Sure, I can make some recommendations. I hope we have some scenarios other than just mine. I think Paizo as a company are running on a skeleton crew and don't have time to feed us free scenarios.

If we are really stuck, tell me what scenarios your group wants to run and I'll buy 2-3, just so we have something fresh to run.

We should ask if anyone got the Humble Bundle. There should be some good stuff in there:
  • Pathfinder Society Intro: Year of Boundless Wonder: Would be nice to play something in season 4.
  • Little Trouble in Big Absalom (is free). Fist Full of Flowers. How do people like playing concept pregens instead of their own characters?
  • Troubles in Otari would be cool in a double slot.

From my batch I'd recommend:
  • Flooded Kings Court
  • Opal of Bhopan :  I would like to see this run by a good roleplaying GM before I have to run it locally.
  • Doom of Casomir (I'm running this Friday night probably, or Sunday)
  • Mosquito Witch (most people have already played this though?)
  • Trailblazers (I heard good things)
  • Sandstone Secret (although I'm not sure how much people like quests. You would need 2-3 quests in a slot imo)
  • Revolution on the Riverside
  • Flames of Rebellion (good reviews)
  • Burden of Envy
  • Blooming Catastrophe: Great scenario, runs long.
  • Iolite Squad Alpha
  • Pathfinder Trials
  • Fanciful March

OKish
  • Lost on the Spirit Road
  • Lions of Katapesh
  • Intro Shattered Sanctuaries
  • Second Confirmation, United in Purpose
  • Bandits of Immenwood

I don't recommend:
  • Tarnbreakers Trail: OK until the TPK at the end.
  • Lodge of the Living God: Runs long, unpopular mini-game.
  • Devil at the Crossorads: Awesome, but takes 8 hours.
  • Escaping the Grave: Difficult prep, boring, possible TPK at end.

Haven't heard from Paizo so its time to give up on them

I'll be bringing stuff that I actually own. I'll have everything I own on my tablet so if I'm wrong and people bring level 8 characters I'll have something to run :-) Although they'll have to get their chronicle sheets electronically after the game. But I can't bring too much actual paper :-(

But I strongly  recommend that we offer lots of level 1-4 scenarios, especially repeatables. I'd be a little surprised if there are many (any?) players with  PFS characters beyond level 4 at this point (if there are, I think they'd pretty much have to have been playing online or in home groups. If there IS any in person PFS play going on in the region I'd love to hear about it :-)). Given that these are repeatables at worst a player will just have to create a new character (or play a pregen).

If I'm wrong please tell me :-).

Looking at the sign ups it looks like we largely have the same people (or subsets) for all 6 sessions. So we're going to want at least 6 different scenarios in total

I'll bring hard copies of the following 4 scenarios

1-06 Lost on the Spirit Road (1-4) repeatable (I think better of this than does Jason :-))
1-14 Lions of Katapesh (1-4) repeatable  (I think better of this than does Jason :-))
2-09 The Seven Secrets of Dacliane Academy (L1-4)
2-13: A Gilded Test (L1-4)

I'll also bring hard copies of several L1 and L4 pregens

It is going to make life easiest if we do all recording via rpgchronicles (even if we do this after the fact). In todays world, is there any problem if we do that? It means that chronicles will be generated electronically AFTER the tournament and people won't get pieces of paper but in todays world I'm going to assume that is ok unless told otherwise. (it does mean people will have to give an electronic means of communication, either an email account or a discord ID)

Thanks Paul, I'll come up with a schedule for adventures and you guys can give your opinion.

Of note, we've added more slots due to demand so we could use even more GM's. I could GM more but I want some time to play with my son as well, so I'm hoping we can find more people.

The demand for this is crazy. This doesn't even count walk-ons. So if people could ask around again and see if anyone else is available it would be a big help. We currently have 20 sessions!

Just so people know, the last 2 messages were for some reason detected as potential spam so I had to manually unblock them (just got to my email now so I only noticed this now).

I'll try and check email a little more often but be aware there may be delays in a message getting out.

As to 1st level adventures, there are also the Free RPG day adventures (which can be downloaded free from Paizo  https://paizo.com/store/pathfinder/adventures/standalone/freeRPGDay/secondEditionFreeRPG).. I personally find A fistful of Flowers and Big Trouble in Little Absalom to be wonderful and charming :-). Only for 4  L1 pregen characters mind.

I'll send the season 4 to Matt, otherwise if you want something you'll need to ask!

Hi all,

We still have two slots (on Saturday) that need a GM but I've assigned the adventures to the slots. I've gotten the Year of Boundless Wonder, but Jason if you could send the rest (they're all from your list) I'll send the rest out to everyone.

Everyone, please review and let me know if you have any questions. The only 3-6 is Saturday slot 2, everything else is 1-4. If there is more demand for high level play we'll change her Saturday Slot 1 to the high level adventure as well.

We may have to shift people around a lot day of because they signed up without seeing the adventure but we should be ok.

If anyone knows anyone else who can GM let me know.

I would like to play 1-15 The Blooming Catastrophe on Saturday slot 3, the only scenario I haven't played.

Would it be possible to either change it to Saturday 2, or move my game to another slot?

I'm genuinely very, very curious.

Are the people who are posting here, GMing at Gryphcon, and playing at Gryphcon currently playing PFS2?
'
If they are, where have they been playing? Online or in person? Are these public or private groups

We all tend to live in our own bubbles :-). In my bubble (Toronto) I'm aware of no public PFS games, not even online ones hosted by Torontonians. Obviously I could be missing something which is why I'm asking :-)

The Milton PFS location was in a private home, and the owner(me) felt the liability risk was too high and closed up shop. Then the pandemic hit and it was never revisited.

Hi all. OK I've sent Matthew all of the scenarios, please inquire through him for distribution. I do not have "Return to the Grave" for Heather and I assume Paul has all of his scenarios as well.

>> Would it be possible to either change it to Saturday 2, or move my game to another slot?

SJ/IceJay, when you said slot 3 on Saturday, did you mean you want to play Blooming on Saturday at 7pm-11pm or Saturday at 9 am to 12pm? I can run Blooming for you potentially from 7-11. Note you are currently signed up to GM on Saturday from 7-11.

One of the things that is confusing is that our GM signup list doesn't have slot numbers that correspond to the Gryphcon slot list.

>> I'd run more online PF1, if people were interested. I have no plans to move on to 2nd edition.

I think it would be amazing if someone could run a PF1 scenario at Gryphcon. If we had longer to prepare, would be fun to request something, like a module.

I've been trying to convince a group to bring D&D 5E to Gryphcon, I think it would appeal more to new players, especially university students. (Then we convert them :))

>>Are the people who are posting here, GMing at Gryphcon, and playing at Gryphcon currently playing PFS2?
'>> If they are, where have they been playing? Online or in person? Are these public or private groups

I've been quite active (GMing), but private games only. I have 3 tables. I have a Mississauga co-worker table that is just once a month that could maybe take 1 player (they are level 3). And I have a kids table for my children and their friends (they are level 3). And I have another table, for my brother and his children (they are level 6).

Hey Geoff! Hopefully you can pop out to Gryphcon for a slot.

Thanks Jason (and thanks again for sharing the modules),

I believe Matthew has already changed the schedule upon my request, as "Blooming Catastrophe" was originally placed at 7~11pm.

Sure I'll bring Museum for you , IceJay, just remind me.

Also, I'll GM the Saturday afternoon slot for you as well, for Blooming Catastrophe. Definitely a fun one.

Ok everybody. If you want to get the scenario that you're running from Paizo for free then
1) You need to sign up on paizo
2) I need the email address that you signed up with at paizo
3) Your username on Paizo
4) The scenario(s) you're running

Matt, Jason - are you happy with my being the principal organizer or do one of you want to do it? I'm willing to do the paizo stuff but you're both doing at least as much as I am.

If you don't want to share your email address with everybody on this quite public forum, just send email directly to me at

I'm more than happy to let someone else step in.  I was doing this when it looked like there wasn't going to be any Pathfinder Society, if you want to be principle organizer go right ahead.

Meant to add more to the previous response.

I've just gotten really busy with work and life so I'm a little behind, I'll download the scenario's and give them out to the people who need them.

Jason, feel free to make your requested changes to the schedule.

I've added the current number of players to the spreadsheet and it looks like we can go down to 2 games Friday, 3 games Sat slot 1 and 3, and Sun slot 2 (though for Sunday since we have the GM's, if we prep the scenarios we could be ready for walks ons if they show). The Sat slots don't have players or GM's so it works out.

For Sun slot 1, I was thinking we pull players out of the first 2 and add them to the 3rd for smaller tables.

Thoughts?

I have no idea what its criteria is but googlegroups sometimes marks messages as potentially spam,

I then have to manually accept those messages

Hence the occasional delay in seeing messages that you have sent.

But I think that you can do either
1) Just reply to a message in your email client
2) Go to googlegroups and reply there

That's definitely OK with me, I'm just here to provide scenarios, support, and GM a couple of slots.

I sent out the adventures. I'm assuming, Jason and Paul, you don't need me to send anything to you.

Also, we lost Jefferey in the last slot as a GM. Which is OK since we have 3 slots and 8 players.

Hi

Someone on discord asked, and I'm also wondering......what's the plan to assign players to tables?

We're just going to have to pull an audible (to grab a football term) and group people up then stick a GM there. We have two higher-level slots on Saturday morning/afternoon where we'll guide players with higher-level characters and new players with pregens. That way people can continue to level/play their 1 or 2 level characters.

Best way to look at it, we don't have two tables of 6 and three open tables, we have 12 players to divide amongst the tables. Unless anyone has a better idea, but this is the best I think with the adventures coming after the sign-up.

That's fine.

In which case I imagine we'll use traditional reporting methods instead of RPGChronicles? Because I think it's going to take too much time to teach people using that on site. Though I haven't used the website that much to know for sure?

I don't think I ever posted this here.

I created a PFS event on Paizo's site.

It is Gryphcon 2023
event #  2,711,685

Yes we'll have to scrum the tables and decide who plays where each slot.

This just reminded me that I should print enough chronicles for our table(s).

See everyone soon!

I figure we start with the tables people are already assigned to and go from there.

Tonight I'll run the table I'm signed up for.

I wasn't able to prepare the second scenario, so the Sunday afternoon slot will also be The Blooming Catastrophe. Hope this doesn't ruin anyone's plans.

It seems like only Paul, Matt, and SJ are reading this thread, but if anyone else is lurking, Gryphcon 2023 was a huge success!

For something that was put together in less than a month, it was great that we had 4 tables in most slots! Thanks Matt, Paul, and all the GMs and players for coming out, it was a good time!

Next year on Saturday, we plan on having between 6-7 tables.

There are plans to have a little more Pathfinder in our future as well. Stay tuned!

Hi Paul, I emailed you my slot that I GMed on Saturday, did you get it?

Also, what is the easy method/website for reporting tables? I know you mentioned it, but I can't find it in this thread.
