Operating System: CentOS Linux 7 (Core)
Kernel: Linux 3.10.0-1160.42.2.el7.x86_64
Architecture: x86-64
OMNeT++ version : omnetpp-6.0pre11

I am trying to build OMNeT++ through ssh to a compute server, where I do not need the IDE, based on the manual I tried

source setenv
./configure WITH_TKENV=no WITH_QTENV=no

But still getting the following error :
configure: error: Some Python modules required by the IDE were not found: posix_ipc

Any help/ suggestions would be really helpful!

Hello Lakshmi Krishnaswamy,

I installed Omnet++ in 'chroot jail' shell. I think it is somewhat equal to installing it through ssh. But while dealing with ssh, it may have some security and file ownership issues also.

My post at the following link may give some idea.

For your information, it is possible to get the GUI based IDE of Omnet++ also through this technique (which is much similar to ssh).

In addition to that, the following are the two GUI based Omnet++ 3D simulations that I did under chroot jail.

Simulating And Visualizing 3D Flying Ad-hoc Network (FANET) Under Omnet++
Simulating and Visualizing 3D Underwater Wireless Sensor Network (UWSN) Under Omnet++

So, I think, along with getting Omnet++ IDE, you can even do full-fledged GUI based 3D simulations (without any 3D accelerated hardware in the guest system).

I think the only thing you may need is the correct file system permissions on that server that you are accessing through ssh.

Charles Pandian,

note that:
- you have to also install certain python modules (follow the installation guide...)
- to deploy on a remote server, it is recommended to use the omnetpp-*-core.tgz versions of the distribution. (that comes without the IDE).

Hi Researchers,

To install OMNeTPP-6.0pre11 in Ubuntu, you can carefully follow the steps in the video (YouTube Channel). Noted that English subtitle is added.

Thank you all so much for the input and suggestions and help!
Installing the python version and then posix_ipc library fixed the error, thank you all so much once again

Best,
Lakshmi
