I dont typically feel comfortable sharing specific businesses on the OTR IG/Facebook. The acception has been sharing business posts for those who donate to our club in some way or have information like an specific exercise someone could try (no money exchange for someone to get the knowledg/tool). Plus i share cool looking races if they dont conflict with ours.

I would like to be sure my instincts are correct. Sally posted about an upcoming workout series she is hosting. She tagged us in the post so i received a notification.

I plan to ignore it and not reshare it. If people have other strong thoughts please let me know. May be something we need to discuss in the future if people have strong opinions.

Cheers!

I agree, it is a slippery slope.  We have over 1000 people that subscribe to OTR on FB and we want to make sure the information they read is pertinent to our group and our events.  We are all exposed to information overload and we should set guidelines on what can get posted.  But the gray continues even with posts that are probably better off being on people's personal walls vs them posting it to OTR (e.g., personal results, fun adventrures, etc).  Again, I think we serve our community well if we reduce the noise.

I'm guilty too!  I even questioned myself posting the wood pile.  My justification was that it was promoting the race and thanking volunteers that get this shit done but it was unnecessary noise, perhaps.

Jeff

People posting from their accounts is also different than OTR official post. Anything for our events is great. The woodpile was fantastic. I needed something else on the IG story to promote the event and it hit the spot.

I agree with the sentiment.   Otherwise can get into an issue of not being fair or equitable to all

I like when people tag us in their stories and we can share. It’s a good thing for engagement.

I think your judgment has been good though jihan with not promoting people’s personal business plight.

I believe self promotion should not be allowed. Sharing cool events is great. Officially, we should support and share local businesses that support us.

I've seen this post plastered all over FB and I agree with you. This is self-promotion on her part. Not up to OTR to share or promote. :)

Thanks everyone! I am doing the right thing and wanted confirmation. I won't feel guilt when OTR is tagged and i dont do anything.
