We cannot figure out what setting in our e-print server configuration continues to cause a failure when we try to validate. We would appreciate any help we could get in figuring this out.

Subject: OAI Validation (step 2): http://repository.uph.edu/cgi/oai2

We received a request to validate (but not register) the following repository:

Base URL: http://repository.uph.edu/cgi/oai2
adminEmail: lib...@uph.edu

## Failure summary

### Checking ListMetadataFormats response

REQUEST:
http://repository.uph.edu/cgi/oai2?verb=ListMetadataFormats&identifier=oai%3Arepository%2Euph%2Eedu%3A18363
GET
FAIL: Server failed to respond to the ListMetadataFormats request (HTTP header
values: status=500 Internal Server Error, age=0, lifetime=3600, is fresh:=1)
FAIL: Can't check metadataFormats available for item
oai:repository.uph.edu:18363, no response to ListMetadataFormats request.
FAIL: There are no metadata formats available to use with the GetRecord
request. The metadataPrefix oai_dc will be used for later tests even though it
seems unsupported.

Hi Sherly,

I'm afraid that when it comes to a 500 error you will need someone to look at your server logs to work out what failed/crashed internally.

Cheers,
Simeon

Hi  Sheryl,
I support an EPrints installation - and might be able to help.
There is also an EPrints mailing list (details here: https://wiki.eprints.org/w/Contact) that might be a better audience for your question.

There is something strange going on with your EPrints system.
You can view records via the 'List Sets' command:

which returns records such as:
http://repository.uph.edu/cgi/oai2?verb=GetRecord&metadataPrefix=oai_dc&identifier=oai:repository.uph.edu:365

The same record should also be returned by the 'List Records' or 'List Identifiers' commands, but both return a server error too.

As Simeon suggests,  there should be some information in the server logs.
If you need some help interpreting any errors, please ask.

Cheers,
John
