I would like to propose NWISA consider the following ideas for the 2025-2026 season:
For Cascadia Cup:
- make gold fleet open (still one team per registered NWISA team, but allow coaches to mix in sailors from incomplete schools if it makes the strongest team)
- use Cascadia Cup results to "seed" programs to invitational regattas
- maybe limit to 10-12th graders to reduce sailors to reasonable #s in gold & silver fleets and not have a third fleet
Instead of RR#1 silver & gold, hold 2 invitational regattas (top programs at one, lower finishing programs at another). Programs would attend just one event (therefore needing only one coach). Regattas could be combined division format and/or allow multiple teams per program with all their best sailors in A & all other sailors in B division.
Qualifications for Fleet Districts could be done at regional qualifiers in the spring instead of RR#3. These regattas could allow mixed teams & eligible "active" teams to race for better competition, but only "active" teams would be able to qualify.
Another pair of skill level invitationals could be held in March. These regattas could take the place of RR#2 & Combined Division Regatta, freeing up a weekend for individual team scrimmages or smaller events in March.
If open team race championships will continue to include a gallium/bronze fleet when numbers warrant, perhaps the open team race seeding events are unnecessary. Coaches can place appropriate teams in gallium for team racing like they currently do for open fleet race champs.
Hope this is helpful as you and the other board members work on the schedule for next year! Kathy
