It appears I left my cell phone in the shopping cart tray at the
Redmond BB QFC. Which I didn't realize until I was ordering tacos on
the other side of town.

Oops.

Normally I get lucky and the phone is waiting for me. This time it
appears somebody is "being helpful" and is keeping the phone safe for
me.. (Wishful thinking...)

But..

I've been getting in to the habit of running APRSDOID on my phone
mostly to get a better track of my travels and adventures. So today,
as I was heading out, I started it up.

For your APRS entertainment - check out http://aprs.fi/w7nwp-5

I've tried calling but the phone is usually on mute so no response there.

I'll try some other IM options before I call the phone company to have
it turned off - if possible.

Also a SAR tool we use is querying the last heard cell ping, it will contain lat/long down to within 16’.

I see it on my map but the last position was 1640.  I would try calling your phone carrier and ask them to ping the phone.  As long as it is turned on they can ping it and read out the lat/long of where it is at.  If they won’t do that for you, I would suggest you call the police department to report a lost phone and ask them if they can ping the phone and give you the lat/long.  Once you report it lost, at least they will enter it on the computer so if it is found, they

I know when someone is lost in my area, I ask 911 to have the carrier ping the phone and they call me back with the lat/long and I can drive/walk up to the lost or injured person.  Modern tech works really well for injured or missing people as long as they call 911 which gives them permission to read out the lat/long.  Since the smart phone came along, we hardly ever have to call out SAR to locate lost people here in the Tahuya…….

I think there is a built in app on Android phones which also locate missing phones but forgot how to do that.

Good luck in finding it, but I know if you all your carrier and report it lost, they can disable it so no one can use it.

Let us know the outcome,

Herb

BTW, I have found or been given found phones here in the woods and if the phone is not locked, I can get it back to the owner.  If the phone is locked and they have no info on the phone that I can access, I wind up giving them to the Sheriff as found property but they can’t do anything with it either.  That is one of the fallacies of locking your phone to protect your data.  I am still old school and do not trust cell phones so do not use them for any financial stuff and I also DO NOT LCOK MY PHONE!  I make sue I don’t put any real personal info on my phone……

One more comment, I found a phone once that was locked and I could not do anything with it not even finding its phone number.  Then the phone rang and that caused it to display the number that called it.  I wrote it down and called it from my phone.  It turned out to be the owner of the phone calling his own phone.  I told him where I was on the 4x4 trail and they found me a short time later.

So, call your phone over and over, if the phone is still on, they might see the display light up showing your phone number.  Then if they are honest, they would call you back.  I know you live in the big city and honesty is not a familiar word over on that side of the pond.
