Under-development version of Noto Nastaliq Urdu released

I just pushed a draft version of Noto Nastaliq Urdu to the public repository. Please note that it's still under development.

You can get the font from https://noto.googlecode.com/git/fonts/alpha/NotoNastaliqUrduDraft.ttf.

There are known issues in the font that we are fixing, but we would appreciate any feedback, so we can know about any concerns or issues earlier to make sure the fixes makes the final public release.

I took and attached some screenshot from Urdu Wikipedia Main Page with various fonts.

As Urdu Wikipedia applied a ccmp 0, Noto Nastaliq Urdu Draft glyphs break on Chrome. However when I removed ccmp 0 manually it got OK. I believe Noto Nastaliq Urdu looks very good, it glyphs are bigger than other Nastaliq font which was a wise design choice that makes the font ready for web or UI use without size modification.

About other screenshots, Urdu Emad Nastaleeq is a similar looking font to Persian Nastaliq fonts (like IranNastaliq), probably worth to look font if there is some plan to make a unified Nastaliq font or such for future.

Ugh That makes me almost want to disallow disabling ccmp in HarfBuzz. But
then again, garbage-in, garbage-out, so not a problem.

That's great to hear. We had a lot of discussions about the font size.
Looking at a full page with it, it surely can use more vertical spacing. But
then again, I think the page uses zero line-gap. A bit more vertical space in
the font wouldn't hurt though.

Which version of the font are you using? I tweaked the vertical spacing a bit
recently.

I had 0.70 version. First attachment is what Noto Nastaliq will look like if ccmp 0 and font-size: 110% would be removed on Chrome on DirectWrite and second is its current state when Jameel Noori Nastaleeq is installed, without any style change. They looks similar from font size view, the reason why I think font size choosing was correct.

Here I created a live preview of Noto Nastaliq Urdu Draft on Persian Wikipedia that doesn't need local installation of the font for testing propose. and here there is aggregated fonts names list separated for each language preference. The template is used on these pages.
