Would it be possible to have the Attachment Window and the Tag Window in one frame with Tabs on top so one can easily switch between Tags and Attachments while saving a lot of space underneath the tree window? Similar to the way the open documents are displayed - indicated by there respective document tabs

In addition it would be very handy if the seperate Tag window could be position right to the note content window - and if the attachment Window could use the same window again.
Something like
/*Attachments*\/***Tags***\
----------------------------------------------

----------------------------------------------

What does the community think about such a GUI change? @Miro, would something like that be possible?

Kind regards

Raimund

There is an existing setting to display tags in a separate vertical
column, betwixt the Tree/List Pane and the Note Pane. See General
Tools > General Settings > 03_Display > Separate Tags Pane Column.
That's permanently on in my configuration. Especially handy if you are
working a document that has a lot of tags.

Unless you have a note that has a lot of attachments, I don't see much
to be gained by moving the attachment pane to the tags pane column.

Best regards,

Paul

While that's technically possible, it would also complicate the GUI code.
As Paul explained, you can have a separate tags pane column, but I am not so sure it should overlap the attachments list.

What about being able to have an option to place the tag column either to the far left or to the  far left and not between the tree column and the content window?

Best regards

Raimund

If you would have to choose only one: either far left or far right, what would it be?

Hi Miro,

I would go for far left

Just to toss out another possibility that I haven't considered at length: The tags pane and the attachments pane could occupy the same space and toggle between them, as with the tree pane and the list pane.

I like this idea, but I would like to avoid having numerous options because the code to build GUI will become super complex.
That's why the question: would such layout be good for everyone as a default?

If it's still possible to separate tags and attachments pane, then probably yes.
If you begin to use NCP, you may not use either tags or attachments, so having both in the same pane (tabbed?) is play. But when you become a power user, you may want to have quick access and overview over both tags and attachments without needing to switch tabs or so, then having the panes separately would be preferable.

Tags/Attachment Pane in a separate column would work for me, albeit I rarely create attachments. But I suspect there are people who don't use either tags or attachments, so an ability to hide that column might be good. What would happen with Main Layout Right and Main Layout Vertical?

This is exactly what I wanted to avoid. Having both options: having the views separate + having them overlapped are two states now, and that would be too complex to maintain.

It would be no problem to hide individual tab or entire column (both attachments and tags), but based on Daniel's response this is not good for everyone, he would still like to have those two separated.
I can not support that many combinations in the code, that's why this seems like a dead end.

  Miro
