Hi,
At various combinations of motor and steering angles the prop of my outboard (currently a Toahatsu 6) can hit the side of my rudder, so the last few years my winter checklist has included filling, fairing and repainting gouges on the side of my rudder. Has anyone had this problem and come up with a simple solution to it?

I'm thinking of installing one of these prop guards to stop this from happening, but I have never used a motor with one, or installed one, so I dont know if it is a tough installation or how it affects operation. Less worry about shearing the prop pin when beaching or fouling on weeds seems like it would be a bonus.   https://www.westmarine.com/mac-s-prop-savers-troll-prop-saver-prop-guard-P011025673.html?srsltid=AfmBOopigUlTB9C6aJCZ5nemOWg566yS4qJK6qbswrdOmIB-c-9UPp99

I drilled a couple holes in the horizontal fin above the propeller and bolted a rounded-end piece of plastic (I used 1/4” polycarbonate) that sticks out farther than the propeller blades, so the rudder hits that before it can get hit by the prop. No issues with fouling or handling and very low cost and low weight. I did fill the bolt/bolt holes with sealant when installing it to try and keep crevice corrosion at bay.
