Shout out to Scott Bushnell for helping me lower Undaunted’s mast yesterday. It’s now tucked away for a longggg winter slumber.

As “step 11: slowly lower mast” from my printed notes (thanks to TTBNs shared doc) drew nearer, I started dragging my feet a bit, as it’s only my second time lowering this big fricking mast and its nerve wracking.

I tried to convince myself I was
“excited” to become more at ease with the process but I’m curious… those of you with these big heavy aluminum masts… does it get less scary? The f27 definitely got easier/more routine but lowering the 42’ mast on my supposedly “short” f32 is quite gripping.

I approach it with a great deal of focus, every damn time.

No.

Ha.   It is.    Scary.     But at 73 I'm still doing it, and solo, to boot.  Until it sells (buy my boat! ) then some one else can have all the excitement.   And joy of this great boat, and club.  I'm taking poetic license with my sentence structure.

I just noticed:  Today my dad would have been 109 years old.  I owe him for the love of sailing and the water, (crystalized and liquid) that he gave me.

Way to go Ginniejo and Scott.  Sorry I missed you this season, which may be my last in the fun boat.
