Greetings Multihullers!

Our June get together will be at the R2AK in Port Townsend (June 13-14).  We are not going to have a separate NWMA party this year, but encourage you to all attend the Ruckus, the big pre race party, which runs from 3PM to 7 PM at the NW Maritime HQ next to Port Hudson, on Saturday, June 13.  Rendez Vous at the beer garden tables at 3:00 PM.

There are, as usual, a number of multihulls in the race, including:

Team Death Warrrant, in a custom cat

Team Desert Drifters, in a Corsair Sprint 750

Team Dogsmile Adventures, in a Corsair F27

Team Hull Yeah, in a Corsair F27

Team Lollipop, on a homebuilt tri

Team Lost but Don’t Care, on a Corsair 28R

Team Make Fetch Happen, on a Hobie 20

Team Makika Masala, on a Farrier F25C

Team Mike, Marty and the Bonesaw, on a Corsair 24 Mk 2

Team Northbound Nutters, on a Farrier F32SR

Team Nothing to Sea Here, on a Hobie Tandem island

Team O Race, on a Windrider 17

Team Snowflakes, on a Tornado cat

Team Tips Up, on a Diam 24

Team Triple Threat, on a Newick Tremolino

Team Vantucky, on a Corsair F27

The Multihull fleet includes some really experienced sailors, and very fast boats.  Let’s hope one of them takes home the first- to-finish prize money!

Please introduce yourselves to the multihull racers, and let them know about the NWMA.  I look forward to seeing as many of you there as can make it—it is always a good time.

After the start (Sunday morning at 5AM) we will meet at Point Hudson picnic tables for a potluck breakfast.  Target time 6AM.  The club will arrange for coffee, you bring some treats.

 Regards,

Vince DePillis

Hi, Everyone!  I'll be there, pulling in to the marina on Friday. Do we have a head count?
Cheers.

I don’t think there’s a head count this year due to no Saturday dinner. I plan to be there by car.

If you're there to catch the seventy-forty eight finishes, please give an extra cheer for the two women's coxed quads from my rowing club, Unstoppable & Unsupervised and Unsupervised & Unstoppable.

I have too many variables to commit until the Friday before.  Keep me in mind if you wish.

Sadly, I'll be out of the country for this, going on a family trip to Italy and the UK.  Agree,  the multi lineup looks amazing.  Cheers, Bill

Hey - all, I am sorry about this, my brain is a scrambled mess at the moment 😂. I can’t remember who was emailing me a week ago about meeting at the docks on Saturday in port Townsend, but I can’t seem to find the email thread and I believe the proposed time - sat at 4.30 now coincides with the ruckus.

Please reach out and sorry!

Cheers

Nige

I'm replying to Nigel's question about the informal dock party on Saturday which will happen after the rendezvous in the Ruckus beer garden at 3:00.  The plan is for me to have club beer available on the docks starting at 5:30...Mark Olsoe

Thanks, Mark!
Thanks for asking, Nigel!

I'm looking forward to seeing folks on Saturday and Sunday! I plan to arrive and begin visiting on Saturday morning, at the Ruckus Beer Garden at 3pm, at the docks at 5:30pm or whenever I get done enjoying the music at the Ruckus (which starts at 5pm), at the 5am race start, and at the Point Hudson Picnic Tables beginning at 6am for our potluck breakfast. Reminder, the club is providing coffee!

Best regards,
Jess

I had a great time seeing all these friends!
We ended up fitting in a dinner together in addition to all the other gatherings we planned. Just a little bit later in the evening. In time for Dogsmile Adventures and Northbound Nutters to get some nourishment before hopefully some good rest. Go Teams Go!

Because everyone who tried it was absolutely begging me for my “Raging Seas Adventure Bar” recipe, here it is.  Kinda like elf-bread, but better. When you need fuel to stare down (or at least try to negotiate with) Poseidon, these do the trick.
(This recipe has evolved over the decades.)

Raging Seas Adventure Bars

1 cup raw cashews (ok to use mixed nuts)

1⁄2 cup unsweetened shredded coconut

1/2 cup oats

1 cup medjool dates, pitted

1⁄2 cup dried apricots

1⁄2 cup dried tart cherries

1⁄2 cup creamy almond butter

1/4 cup chocolate chips (optional, and I usually leave out, my body is a temple).

If you can handle it, you can sub these for the oats, tastier but, without going into too much detail, I can expect a day of reckoning in the future.

4 tablespoons chia seeds

4 tablespoons hemp hearts

Earlier me could handle it.

  • In a food processor fitted with the chopping blade, combine the cashews and coconut and pulse until finely chopped. Transfer to a bowl.
  • Place remaining ingredients except the chocolate chips.   Process until the ingredients are well combined. Then slowly add the cashews/coconut back in with the processor running. Watch with wonder as everything gradually gets mixed.  You made need to stop the processor and redistribute the ingredients once or twice with a wooden spoon. Keep going until the mix holds together nicely when pressed. If the mixture is too crumbly, add a little more almond butter and process again. If too gooey, more oats.
  • If using, add chocolate at the very end to lightly crumble.
  • Form into a loaf on a sheet of parchment paper and cut into 6-8 bars.
  • Wrap the bars individually in parchment paper and bag them up.

Notes:

Drain some of the oil off the almond butter before mixing if you want the bar drier on the outside.  I like the oil and just wipe my fingers on my pants.  It lubricates the pants, making them easier to get into the washing machine.

They (the bars, not my pants) will keep for several days at room temp, several weeks in the fridge or indefinitely in the freezer. (We occasionally find one in the back of the freezer whose age cannot be determined without carbon dating.  Still perfectly edible.)

Keep reusing the parchment and baggies until they disintegrate. The traces of last year’s bars left on the wrappings won’t kill you. These are “adventure bars” after all.

Cheers!

Andy

PS, the event was a hoot! Watching the finger piers become strewn with tools as racers frantically assemble their untested modifications the night before the race NEVER GROWS OLD!

Thanks Andy,  Marilyn loves dates and have them in the fridge at all times.  We had a Morrocan girl live with us for 6 months who would extol the virtues of them.
