Mourning Warblers have been in my mind. They're are the last warbler to arrive here, around Memorial Weekend. I was speaking with Hank at his lunch time.  I was still in jammies and was baking a meatloaf and he tells me that Tom Moran had a MOURNING WARBLER at North Fork Preserve.  I got ready to go and took the meatloaf out of the oven and left it to cool.  I listened to the calls and song before I left the house and once more at the preserve to refresh my ears..

When I got there, there were a lot of bird song, BALTIMORE and ORCHARD ORIOLES, ROSE-BREASTED GROSBEAK, YELLOW WARBLER, TITMOUSE, RED-WINGS, HOUSE and CAROLINA WRENS, TOWHEE, CATBIRD and ROBIN.  A man was leaving and he stopped to speak to me, telling me the KJ coaxed the bird out and saw him for a second or two and where. He gives me a better location where KJ got the bird. I'd love to learn that trick to coax out a Mourning Warbler to appear.....

Stood I stood between poles number 13-15.....  My ears perked up when I heard a guff/twittery chip.  I found my quarry....I scanned and scanned the low brush....At last I heard the start of the song before I glanced at Merlin and saw Mourning Warbler.  I waited awhile and then claimed victory in my heart and moved on. I walked around a loop and came to where I parked the Jeep and headed home.  I stopped at Pattie's Berry Patch and got a quart of strawberries.  At home I put the meatloaf in the fridge and fell into my meditation chair.

Jody,
So glad to hear that your feather quest got results. And oh my North Fork strawberries. The ones we get here from California taste like cardboard in comparison.
Good birding my friend.
