Re: my message at the beginning of July
I know they're coming, but I have yet to see ONE Yellow Jacket in the yard or on our hummingbird feeders... Plenty of honey and bumble bees.
We know they're coming - but when? We also know that only the queen survives the winter, so how late does the 'hive' show up?
They tell us some insects are in trouble - but Yellow Jackets?
Just keeping track. Anyone?

I’ve seen a few scattered around in Southold town but none at my house as of today.
I’ll email or text when I start seeing them.

Coincidentally (not ironically), after sending the email today, we noticed our first few YJs of the season in our yard too.  At the hummingbird feeders.
I guess we can conclude that the new worker YJs come out around the beginning of August. Really appreciate your observations!
