Mission Briefing

Game 143: The Doom that Came to Alarion

Date/Location:

March 12, 3065 / Alarion, Lyran Alliance (Class A)

Mission Briefing:

Dropship Dotted Line, orbiting Alarion near Port Sydney, 02:13 local time

“Attention, attention!” Miss Black’s voice rings throughout the ship.  “All commanding officers to Briefing Room Gamma at once!  I repeat, all commanding officers to Briefing Room Gamma at once!”

Some of you actually beat her there and you can see the fatigue on her face when she arrives.  She doesn’t wait a moment before launching into the briefing.

“I’ve just received word from Doge that the black Marauder you encountered earlier at Ioto Galactic Enterprises has surfaced on the opposite side of Sydney Bay, close to the base where our personnel and equipment are being held.  We don’t have a lot of intel.  The resistance informant only tipped us off about our missing people and equipment an hour ago, so I haven’t had enough time for the usual planning and reconnaissance, but we won’t get a better distraction than this, so we’re launching now.  Here’s what we know…”

Miss Black taps a few keys on her datapad and a couple of blurry images appear on the briefing room display.  One image shows a small caravan of APC’s and heavy battlemech recovery vehicles laden with salvaged units.  The other shows a light turret in front of a building.

“The informant saw a group of APC’s and heavy battlemech recovery vehicles with salvage matching the description of our missing units entering the Port Sydney repair base an hour ago.  The First Lyrans may not have had enough time to unload them, so our units and some potential salvage may be there for the taking.  I can’t say what the composition of the base defenders will be, but we do know that the base has static defenses, namely light turrets.  Don’t let their size fool you, though.  These things won’t go down easily.”

Miss Black makes another couple taps on her datapad and the images are replaced with a list of units.

“I’ve spoken with XO Thames and he’s agreed to place The Periphery’s Finest’s transports and infantry under your command for this mission.  Use them to secure our assets and bring everything home.  You’ll still need to bring vehicle crews with you to secure the recovery vehicles.  Bring our people home, but don’t let yourselves get captured in the process.  Dropships launch in 30 minutes, so get to it.  Dismissed.”

Objectives:

Primary - Recover the captured personnel and vehicles

Secondary - Extract any salvage the First Lyran Regulars recovered from the previous engagement with the Black Marauder

Tertiary - Destroy the defending First Lyran Regulars

Special Rules

Extracting Personnel

To extract the missing personnel, infantry will need to enter the building where they are being held and bring them out.

Extracting Vehicles and Salvage

Each heavy battlemech recovery vehicle has one unit on it and will need a crew to drive it out of the base.  Crews will be attached to infantry platoons.  While attached to an infantry platoon, the crew moves at the infantry platoon’s speed and doesn’t take damage until the accompanying platoon is destroyed.  Vehicle crews will be considered unarmed and make no attacks of their own.  Any vehicle crew ending its turn in the same hex as a heavy battlemech recovery vehicle enters that vehicle and may begin driving it away on the next turn.

Forced Withdrawal

As Miss Black does not want any of the rescuers to become additional prisoners, the Forced Withdrawal rules on p.258 of Total Warfare will be in effect for AA units.

Tonnage Allotment

AA may bring up to nine non-infantry units totalling 400 tons.  Any leftover tonnage can be filled by your infantry units.  In addition to your own units, the following units are being assigned to you to assist with completing mission objectives:

PF Maxim
PF Karnov BA Variant “Spoon Rocket II”

PF Karnov BA Variant “Door Dash II”
PF Alpha Flamer Foot Infantry
PF Beta Jump Rifle Energy Infantry
PF Gamma MG Foot Infantry

PF Delta MG Foot Infantry

Depending on available space in carriers and player preferences, you can swap in any of your own infantry in place of the above listed infantry.

“Take care of them and they’ll take care of you.” ~XO Thames

Players also need to indicate which vehicle crew(s) they are bringing to the mission.

Maestro's Havoc will commit the Vulcan (40), Centurion (50), and the Vedette (50). I am also assigning Juan Jungalo's Striker crew to my infantry platoon (3) for vehicle extraction.

Are vehicle crews deployed alongside infantry platoons in a 1:1 ratio?

If you want to have multiple vehicle crews attached to the same infantry stand, you can do it.  That doesn't mean you can attach all your vehicle crews to the same infantry platoon, though.  We'll say the limit is half the size of the accompanying infantry platoon.  So if you have a foot rifle ballistic platoon of 28 troopers, they can have up to 14 vehicle crew members deployed with them.
