Hi All,

I created a Slack community for all things related to Node.js   I thought sometimes it's nice to chat in real-time as opposed to the forum or Q/A style (google groups, reddit, SO, etc..).

Feel free to join in!  Tell others so we can grow the community.

Hello Justin,

your effort is greatly appreciated so please forgive my critical thoughts: do we need one more channel over and above this list (not real-time as you say), Gitter: nodeJS, node-forward, IRC, … is there an advantage that Slack would bring to this? Also, I already use Slack for work, and I believe the Slack app only allows you to be part of one community at a time, which would make switching back and forth a painful necessity (or am I wrong, perhaps?).

Regards,

You are wrong -- as of the 1.0 client, it supports multiple slacks at once.

Ah okay, thank you for that. I have always wanted to wear multiple slacks :-).

Hi Ravi,

It seems like it's fairly easy to switch back and forth between communities (are they called communities?).  On the Mac app it's just Cmd+1, Cmd+2 to switch between.  I don't have a strong opinion about the necessity, but for me personally this is nice because I already use Slack on a daily basis but I've never gotten into IRC.  Also, isn't there a way to integrate the IRC channel into Slack?

Sorry to all for taking so long to get the invites out.  I have a script which is supposed to auto-grant access upon registration, but had some issues on my server earlier.  This is was just a random thought I had while coding in a coffee shop a few days ago.  I use slack for other projects I'm in and it just started with asking a couple friends if we could start a Node group.

@Aria - Would love it if you and some of the other major contributors joined (if you haven't already).  I respect alot of the content you post here in this google group.  It would be awesome if some of the folks I consider to be major players would hop on the Slack chat sometimes :)

@Zach - "Also, isn't there a way to integrate the IRC channel into Slack?"
-I'm working on this soon :)   I see some tutorials going the other way (Slack to IRC), but I'm working on getting the IRC actually embedded in Slack soon.

If you have any other ideas, I have a trello board for users to submit/vote on feature requests - https://trello.com/b/aZKdh2La/nodeslackers-io-development

I plan to build nodeslackers.io into a collaborative community.  Just don't know exactly how yet.  Slack is the first step :)

Of course, I didn't mean to duplicate information… this is a moderated forum.

No worries, it happens! I didn’t mean to sound like I was trying to admonish you :-) :-).

@Nathan, thanks for the tip.  I think someone in the Slack chat actually recommended this.

I ended up creating a custom script to auto-register the users (there's a hidden api in slack for registration).

After looking at it again, slackin seems to offer a bit more though.  I might add this when I revamp that nodeslackers.io webpage

Thanks

Hello, is this group still alive? I've tried signing on the website twice, but I never got a confirmation email.
