is it possible to implement solutions with the ethernet protocol, in arduino or with esp8266?

You will need to be a lot clearer and more complete explaining what you are trying to achieve if you want sensible answers.

The short answer is "yes" for the former but "no" for the ESP8266 which is Wi-Fi only. Though I'm guessing that "ethernet protocol" was meant as a wider question than "wired ethernet" which is what I took it to be.

Perhaps you really mean to ask "Is it possible to communicate between Node-RED and an Arduino or ESP8266 using TCP/IP?" To which the answer is certainly yes.

It's yes to both actually.

The StandardFirmataWiFi.ino sketch ships as an example the Arduino IDE.   You can pick out tcpip as a transport for firmata using node-red-contrib-gpio as either a server or client.

I'm trying to implement a solution with the signature library and esp8266
but I am not able to make node-red communicate with the board

Hey Yuri,

If you are using an ESP then try to install mosquitto server on your rapsberry pi and communicate via MQTT, is the most easy and practical, take a look on the web is full of info.

Hi Yuri,
There are many ways to communicate, you do it by serial port or via HTTP request for instance, however for an ESP module the easiest is MQTT.

If you used StandardFirmataWifi.ino on the board, you'll want to select "TCP Connect to" as the transport option
