If anyone gets to tinker with this, I'd like to hear about it,

You mean the F(x)Tec Pro1-X? https://www.xda-developers.com/pro1-x/
I'm drooling over it for a week now, but I doubt it gonna support Google Fi unfortunately.
I'm very curious if anyone gets one. The secret XDA community pack on indiegogo is $639.
It reminded me somewhat of the Pine Phone (someone offered here) since this could come with Ubuntu Touch as well. But hardware-wise Pro1-X is very decent (8GB RAM and 256GB storage for example), I know the Qualcomm in it is not the latest in it but oh well. $639 is on the high side, but small company cannot compete with large ones with 3 magnitudes higher production counts.
