All,
I've received notices that the Nashville Linux Users Group Meetup page
shall be deleted tomorrow unless someone - they suggest me - takes on
the role of leader and no doubt pays them money.
Allow me to be blunt. I really do not care [ about | for ] Meetup.
Does anyone else have stronger feelings.

It would be a good idea for someone from NLUG to hold on to the meetup group. It was for a while how people found meetups. The pandemic and their own bad business practices has arguably made them less relevant in the last two years.
If Michael Chaney can be added as a leader for now to hold the membership, this would be a good thing. I don't mean to step on Vincent's role.
If NLUG decides that they do NOT want the group, it would be better to delete the group than to let it fall randomly into someone's hands which is what meetup will do.
It has 851 "members" at this point. That's way bigger than I expected it to be. Honestly, I'd keep it and see if there isn't a way to drive more engagement with more of these 851 "members". Meetup has a message board feature. I suspect a lot of those people are not aware of this mailing list.
If Michael Chaney can be added as a leader for now to hold the membership, this would be a good thing. I don't mean to step on Vincent's role.

I agree. The meetup group will be useful again once we're back to doing in-person meetings at Vaco (and perhaps even a long-overdue installfest or two).

(If there's a fee, I can contribute or pay the whole thing) If the meetup is essential to the online meetings, then I'd say lets keep it going.
As much money, time and headaches Linux has saved me ($50k so far in 3 years thanks to Howard, NLUG and Linus), I of course think everyone should use Linux, so if the Meetup helps anyone else start using Linux ... good.

NLUG. I see three names of folks supposedly involved that I have never
seen before. I do not see where I may point to someone else - like you.

Meetup is perfectly happy to take my money to start a new group but I am
nothing more than a member of NLUG at this point unable to change the
organization thereof.

JonnyX replied in the thread. Not sure, but he appears to own the meetings. I'll message Vincent and John OMalley, but they have both had things preventing them from being active lately. Not sure who else could be a current MeetUp admin.
