Happy 2026 - what's crackin?

Hi all,

I'm new to the group, just wanted to say hello and get some activity on the chatboard.

I work in the language services industry (Translation, Localizatin, etc.) and have gotten into NLTK as a python-centric NLP learner over the past few years. Have also used it to develop some prototypes for different data analysis routines at the company where I work.


My open questions for the group:

What are your NLP activities at the moment?

Are you using NLTK? How do you view it in the current landscape of tools and tech?

Hi Scott,

I think I read that NLTK is in "maintenance mode" at the moment. I read some parts of the book and worked with the natural language toolkit some years ago. I thought they were both great, the book and the software, but I'm not doing much linguistics lately, and the few things I do, I do them with R (learning some new - for me - things on statistical methods mainly).
