how to use the rst extensions if I am already using markdown?

I've been using markdown for years. I was thinking of using some of the directives like ".. media" to post videos of me skiing on my site. Can I do this using the nikola directives that seem to only be for rst, or do I need to embed my videos directly in markdown? Or, is there another alternative that I haven't found yet?

Most, if not all those reSt directives are also available as short codes that work in markdown, and it's explained in the manual.
