Was wondering how many people were aware that Microsoft relicensed a version of their MS-DOS under an MIT license:  https://github.com/microsoft/MS-DOS  I remember the topic coming up on a FreeDOS forum at one point and developers saying they couldn't use any Microsoft code because of license restrictions.  Slashdot mentioned Microsoft relicensed the source.  Also, GW-BASIC ( https://github.com/microsoft/GW-BASIC ) is available under an MIT license.  It would be interesting to build it from source, but I don't see any makefiles and I don't think it's compatible with GNU asm tools.

It MAY be posible to build with WASM or JWASM as they both seem to support the MASM syntax and are relatively open-source compilers. However, given the route that is being taken on this project, I'm not too certain that anything from DOS 1.0 to 2.0 will be of any use and GW-BASIC would probably need a massive source re-write to be of any use in a 32-bit world.
