Prince William and Bill Gates hold private phone call in midst of coronavirus crisis

Prince William spoke to the founder of the Microsoft empire yesterday, according to the Court Circular, 

the official register detailing every official engagement carried out by members of the Royal Family. The 

Duke of Cambridge held this meeting as joint patron of the Royal Foundation he created in 2009 with 

Prince Harry. 

While officials remain tight-lipped on the content of his phone call, the fact the Duke called Mr Gates as patron of the Royal Foundation suggest their meeting had to do with a charitable project, possibly linked to the current coronavirus pandemic.

The entry, dated May 21, read: "His Royal Highness, Joint Patron, the Royal Foundation of The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, this evening held a Meeting with Mr William Gates (Co-Chairman and Trustee of the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation) via telephone."

Mr Gates is at the forefront of funding efforts to find a vaccine for COVID-19.
