Was wondering if anyone has thoughts on best practice re netbox HA installation...

docker clusters?  snapmirrors? clustered HA postgres?  haproxy?

Ours runs on VMware + VSAN with an HA policy

I have two servers set up with mirrored installations of NetBox running PostgreSQL hot standby. The media directory is synced to the standby every few minutes.

Apologies I know this is an old thread

I am attempting to get this setup with PostgreSQL hot standby and feel that I am almost there. When I built my two Netbox installations I gave the postgre netbox users different passwords and I think / know that this is stopping my replication.

The postgre log on the slave gives

2018-09-12 22:46:37 BST [3571-1] netbox@netbox FATAL:  password authentication failed for user "netbox"

I don't seem to be able to get the passwords in sync. On the slave it says I can't change the password as it is a read only copy. If I change the master netbox postgre user password to that of the slave the master breaks and the slave starts to work.

Please confirm if these passwords should be the same on both servers.

Thanks

Ross

I fixed my issue by changing a value in the /etc/postgresql/9.5/main/pg_hba.conf file

Change the peer type for IPv6 from md5 to trust

# IPv6 local connections:
host    all             all             ::1/128                 trust

What is the recommended process to perform an upgrade of the hot standby? Practicing in a home lab. I am attempting to go from 2.4.4 to 2.4.5

Primary has upgraded fine and secondary of course fails the upgrade.sh as it is read only.

Thanks in advance.

Hi, I would like to replicate your setup of "two servers set up with mirrored installations of NetBox running PostgreSQL hot standby". Could you give me more information on how to set this up please?
Regards.

Have a look here. I had to abandon the original idea as having a read only DB means you cannot used LDAP based logins as they write into the DB. Also I couldn't figure out how to do upgrades on the standby system with the time I had.

In the end I just had a script that backed up and restored the DB to a second server. This meant LDAP logins and upgrades worked fine.

I seem to have lost my notes on the original configuration.
