Hello everybody,
how would you describe a Cisco Nexus 7K "divided" in several VDCs?
I started out by modeling every VDC as a single device, and this would suit most of my needs, but it would not be good when trying to fit everything in a rack.

Anybody has any suggestions?

Thanks
BR

Try to create devices bays where chassis will be parent and devices in the chassis kids.

Model the physical the way it is. Then possibly use Tags or something if you want to designate ports belonging to a VDC. Netbox its meant to model the physical side not necessarily the logical.

What's a VDC? Is it a sort of "virtual router", like a context on an ASA firewall?

If so, another option would be modelling it as VMs:
- create the physical device
- create a VM "cluster" where the device is a member of that cluster
- create the VDCs as VMs in that cluster

What option did you choose for this in the end? I am about to start the same journey...

Thanks

So the way I modelled this, which isn't the "right" way, was to model everything as a device type that is a child of the chassis.  Line cards, PSU, etc are modelled as inventory items but the chassis and the VDC are in a parent/child relationship.

I went for the device bays solution and it works fine for me.
