Nixie Counter Simulator for C64

Hi Folks, 

I used to be quite active here, but mostly just lurking for the last decade.  However, I recently had occasion to design and write a fun little program for my Commodore 64 computer which simulates a nixie tube counter with alarm.  Nothing special, written in BASIC, and not even very accurate timing-wise.  But pretty to look at, I guess!  I was not trying to copy any particular tube or digit design, just a quick and dirty demo with some sprites and sound.  You can see it on YouTube here: https://youtu.be/0ZB6tOo3U6k?si=kJNCVlT8XCPrjQ3h

Ha! C64 was my very favourite home computer (after the Dragon32) when I was a lad... many countless hours 'wasted' playing games.....

We had a VIC-20 before we got the C64 - I learned my chops on those machines!  The Paul Butterfield books taught me BASIC and 6502 assembly.  That C64 was a pretty flexible machine with a lot of very cool features for the day.

A while back I got the bug to relive some of this and found the BMC-64 emulator project for the Raspberry Pi 3B platform - it's as close to the real thing as you can get, virtually cycle accurate emulation and even composite video out if you want.  I have no affiliation with the project myself, but it's the best emulator I found and I highly recommend if you're into C64 stuff.

Nice!  I have an original C64C with some modern amenities like a Pi Zero based 1541 disk drive emulator.  I also use VICE which is a software emulator for Windows/Mac/Linux.  The new Commodore 64 Ultimate is an amazing hardware reproduction that is reasonably priced too.

But none of them use real nixie tubes :(
