Hello all! I'm a fan of nixie clock and very pleased to find this group. I started designing my own nixie clock 2 years ago little by little, referring to experiences shared by professional designers. Now my first design is finished and I would like to share to you all. Your comments and suggestions would be highly appreciated. ( apologize for my ashamed skill of photography :-) )  I wish being friend of all you guys and join your discussions!

Best regards,
Tsing Tseung

Welcome Tsing!

Nice design, i really like it :) saw it on ebay a few days ago. What tubes did u use? I also like the case :)

For your next projects you should consider driver-ic's. These save a lot of space and parts, with 3 IC's you can drive a 6-digit Clock + 4 dots.

An example is the HV5122/5222 from Microchip. I will post a project next week where i used them

Hi Jonathan,

Many thanks for your appreciation and comment! Actually the electrical component used in the design is one of the expected highlights, because the case is totally transparent for the exhibition of inner structure of the clock. I adopted intentionally large chips, all through-hole mounting type and soldered by myself, in order to hopefully build a kind of vintage and delicate feeling when people look at it. Maybe more devotion of appearance is applied than technology, by which I would like to show the feature and creativity, because I don't have an excellent skill on electrical engineering as you professionals :-)  Meanwhile, I'm designing my second clock with much smaller packages of chips and a compacter circuit design, which might be closer to your favor. Now the sample is under the final test and hopefully it can be released in one month. And I'm really looking forward to your new project!

The tube I used is of type QS30 / SZ-1. Have you really seen the item I posted, because currently there is another person selling the same clock on Ebay, to whom I sold the first released clock. Now he/she would like to sell the clock in much higher price which, more or less, makes me frustrated. Well, maybe it's life. :-(

Best regards,
Tsing Tseung

Very nice! Is the processor a 1284P? Did you use Atmel Studio, Arduino IDE, or something else?

Hi Mitch!

Thanks for your appreciation! The processor is an old type: AT89S52. There are dozens of such chips on hand so that I decided to start with them. They are proved to perform quite well in my design.

Best regards,
Tsing Tseung
