Greetings all,

I found this while digging though a box o' Nixie's.

All I found was this doc for the pinout.  There are no markings on the tube...

Does anyone have some info on it?

I don't have a use for it, but if you have an old Heathkit clock it's yours!

I made a wristwatch with a similar display (SP-151). Segment current is 350uA, and requires about 180V to ionize.

The real nuisance with these displays is making a PCB footprint (I had to use a digital caliper to measure X-Y coordinates of every pin)  and fitting the bloody thing into the board.
They are nice displays; mine sat unused for over 40 years and ironically what saved it was the fact that the pins were not on a standard 0.1 in grid pattern. Otherwise I would have recklessly
soldered it as a teenager and probably ruined it.

Have a pic of it?

The pin info and data sheets are on Dieter's site - it's the same layout for the Sperry SP-351/352/253/354 - not complex. Yours is 4-digit, so unusual.

The Heathkit one is the SP-352 (2-digit) and was used in their clocks (GC-1005, GC-1092A, GC-2005) & transceivers (HW-104, SB-104, SB-104A).

So, yours is not a Heathit one, but nice none-the-less.

Cheers

Nick

This reminds me the following:

Somebody heard about the ZM1251 5×7 nixie dot matrix? Size of a stamp!
Are these displays ever used and has somebody used it for a clock, or something like that?
Sorry for the topic hijacking...

Cheers,

eric

It appears that it may have black paint covering the lower portion of the front, hiding the anodes? I have an NOS SP=353 sitting here, it appears to be 3/4 of what you have. There is no black band across the bottom, and the name and part number are etched into the glass at the lower left corner. Perhaps you could carefully try removing some of that black stuff with acetone or lacquer thinner, and see if there is a part number under it?

All
Thanks for all your help on this.  I removed the black tape from the display.  Nothing there.  Close inspection shows the nipple is cracked and may be broken.  Still, this test this weekend and see if she glows!
