Zumbo's Just Desserts

Stumbled on this dessert cooking competition on Netflix called Zumbo's Just Desserts .. it's shot in Australia and I've found it fairly entertaining but more importantly they have this giant faux NIXIE display.

So naturally I tried to suss out how they managed this and I was leaning towards it simply being animations on a ipads or something or possibly laser etched with side lighting and apparently it is the latter https://hackaday.io/project/13366-giant-nixie-tubes/#j-discussions-title

There's some hinting of multiple reflections when you look at the '2' very carefully, which happens with edge-lit, but it looks so incredibly-nixie because they did an outstanding job.

The creator said he used acrylic for the edge-lit numerals; I was expecting high-quality optical glass.
