Hi

I decided to make a website for my future projects. I also will take pictures of all the tubes i have and post them in the "tube database". Currently there are about 50 common tubes listed.

The address is: www.swissnixie.com

What do you think about the site? What could i do better? =)

I know, the images of the tubes are not that good, but im currently looking for a solution to take pictures always the same way, angle, light etc.  For those pics i used a box of styro, but it does not work well.

Very nice. Small point -shouldn't R17 be connected to +12V ?

When I needed to take a bunch of jewelry pictures one time, I used a translucent storage bin. I had a dark background to set the jewelry on (not sure if a dark background would be best for nixies) which was set inside the bin, and shone a bright desk lamp (maybe two) on the outside of the bin so that it would be diffused inside. I used a small aperture for maximum depth of field, and no flash, with a tripod and shutter delay. They came out pretty well. One thing to make sure of is to use the manual white balance feature of your camera if it has it. Otherwise slight variations in your subject can make the camera use a different white balance and the pictures will not all look like they're lit the same.

In my case it doesn't seem to make any damned difference - I can never get those Max1771s to play nicely.

Hey Jonathan,

This website looks amazing, good job! The only thing missing: pictures of that fantastic GI-11B you found :-))

Best wishes
Jens

One more thought: You have your watermark "Swiss Tubes" in all your pictures. That is fine, but should you ever want to change that you would probably have to edit all the pictures again. Here is a relatively simple instruction how you can generate these watermarks online:

    http://www.htmlguard.com/articles/dynamic-image-watermarks-with-php/
    http://www.htmlguard.com/articles/using-htaccess-to-mask-watermark-php-calls/

Perhaps it is wise to invest a little extra time now to include this, it might end up saving you a humongous amount of work later on.

Cheers

Jens

Hi Jonathan,

Fantastic website! I would like also to design my own, however the first thing I must do is to buy a reflex camera! :-)

@Nick
Thanks for pointing that out. This must have been disconected while making the schematic looking nice.... I've uploaded a new version

@Jens
Oh the GI-11B, it will follow! Over easter holidays i have time to take pics of the GI-11B and a few other tubes.
Thanks for the PHP Watermark link, i will look into it.

@Nixcieted. BoostConverters are not that simple to handle, specially if you boost the input over Factor 10. The Board layout is very critical and components have to be choose right.
My supply is based on this one: http://www.desmith.net/NMdS/Electronics/NixiePSU.html
On that page you find information about the layout of such converters, and choosing parts.

One problem, i never got rid of with any boost converter circuit is the "ringing" of the coils. For my next projects i will evaluate a Flyback-Converter, and a Boost converter with voltage doublers (proved design by LinearTechnologies,) and see how they will perform.

I have added 17 tubes at 26.March, and 4 tubes today, including the "GI-11B Engineering Sample"

I have added a few tubes today !:)

Two are "interesting"

XN10 by Siemens, have found absolutely no information

B4024 by Burroughs, i wonder what the G and the M was standing for.

I'd venture a guess that the "G" may have stood for Giga as in
Gigahertz, and the "M" for Mega as in megahertz, which would mean that
it was used in a frequency counter. Ira.

Now you just need to tell me how much money to send you for one of those kits.  I love the look of the case you put the clock into.
