Hi Folks,
I was recently given a couple of interesting neon bulbs in GLS bayonet format, I’ve attached pictures. I wonder if anyone can tell me what these would be used for? They don’t give out much light really. Maybe darkroom safe light or night light?

The one with the crossed electrodes seems to be made by Siemens and has normal glass. The spiral element one has a yellow coating on the glass and is made by Osram .
All info welcome!

Robin.

The Beehive one looks pretty rare to me.  If it's from the 1930's that's a keeper.  I've seen the other one before... not sure what the use was but they're more common.

Yep, UK, I got the bulbs from a salty old sailor ( actually a photographer :) ) in a London boatyard when I fixed his RAID disk array for him! He got them in a jumble sale years ago.  Funny where these things turn up...

Cheers,
Robin.

As some of you know, I am fond of vintage coin slot amusement machines. If they contain nixie tubes, then what's not to like even more?

The Golden Mint slot machine was made by Sturgeon Electronic Manufacturing Co. Ltd. of Bognor-Regis, Sussex, England in the 1960s. There were 240 pennies in a pound, so this was not gambling for high stakes.

I hope you've been able to visit Tim Hunkin's creations. He provides some clips of them on his youtube videos (secret life of components). No idea when I'll ever be in the UK again, but I'll be sure to visit Novelty Automation.
