Beware! Don't use this type of B13B socket!

Or at least don't use them with tubes with "nipple" on bottom. I've just lost a Z560M I just finished regenerating... Now it is useful only for soldering pins to PCB.
I think the picture explains everything (socket type and damage done). The middle hole is too small and if you press the tube to the end, the stress caused on sides of tube closing will cause it to pop after few minutes (around 3 for me). I was sitting and I've heard a faint "blop!".

Any reason why that hole could not be drilled larger??  Ira.

It can be drilled larger, I've even done that before in a similar socket to fit a 5mm LED in there.
But I didn't think that a B13B socket could be not compatible with tubes with the same base! Who would expect that to happen? I was going to give those sockets along with some Z560Ms to a friend, who wanted to doodle a bit with nixies - wire endings would be good for a person, who doesn't make his own PCBs. He wouldn't be happy to break his first nixie within minutes of working with them.
Those sockets were used originally with Z566M, which have the nipple on top, but often  were replaced with Dolam LC-631 in factory. I wonder how many LC-631 tubes were damaged on first day of work in Meratronik equipment.
