Some terrible luck...

Well, This may be the dumbest question of the year - and it's still very early.

I packed my MOD-SIX_7971 clock and it's tubes away so I can do some extensive remodeling. The tubes were carefully packaged in a separate box.Unfortunately, my help dropped a large, heavy box on the tube box, and broke 5 of the 7 tubes (good thing I had a spare...). It was a legitimate accident, but I am not sure if my insurance will cover this.

So, I need to find four tubes. Apparently, most have now been added to hoards. During a purge of surplus "treasures" a couple of years ago, I sold some spares, thinking that the money would be more useful than tubes (and ham radio stuff, etc, etc)stored in a closet. Oh well...

Does anyone have any tubes for sale?

                I debated with myself in even responding, because I really don’t want the hate responses I will likely get.  Uhhhgg.

 

                I have several and I don’t want to sell them.  I do really feel for your situation and it would be a shame to see a MOD-6 go tubeless.  Even more is that you’re a fellow neonixie member, but I have to think of my remaining dwindling supply.

 

                I will offer up tubes at $325 each (insured shipped – to USA).  Unlike ebay sellers ($375 - $550 each), I have been around forever and I guarantee that they work.  I would take video of them working in a MOD-6 and mark them on video to ensure you get what I show.

 

                With that said, I hope others will be able to supply to you at a cheaper price, hell, I encourage it.  At least you now have another option outside of ebay.

Ummm, a huge corporation selling just 1 on ebay reporting it is NEW and having 97% feedback.

 

I agree, they can definitely be had cheaper than I offered them.  I think I wrote that.

You said ebay sellers want $375+, yes that one listing is the only one I could only find in the sold listings, but ive seen quite a few earlier this year sell for similar prices.

I'm sure the poster will appreciate your offer and I dont mean to cause any fuss, I'm just trying to offer a second opinion on what I think their value is to help the poster make an informed decision.

Possibly, at least for like $200. It would be a very smart idea to sell them, but I fear he might not be interested. They definitely seem comparative easy.

Hi Yall,

I have quietly resurrected my NixieStat thermostat project this last year. While I don't have the 'Nixie' part done on the project yet, I do have the thermostat portion well on its way. I will hopefully have the nixie display PCB working in a few weeks. It will be interesting to see just how well DHL from China is now working.

My current thinking of the display is 2 sets of 3 IN-17 nixie tubes and a few neon bulbs. This will allow me to show the inside temperature with the one set and various other temperatures such as the radiator and outside temps with the other.

This project is very early in its life with little to no documentation. I hope this to change. The source code, schematics and PCBs (done in kicad) can be found on the GitHub repositories croftj/nixiestat and croftj/esp_components. I am not planning on making kits or selling this. It will, as all of my stuff, be released as open source.

The jist of the architecture is to have it networked with remote sensors communicating back to the thermostat itself over the Mosquitto MQTT message bus. The MQTT broker is stock and running on a RaspberryPI. The thermostat and sensors are ESP32 based. All communications uses json. 

While all of the code can run on pretty much any ESP32 devboard. I have created my own. There are two of them, to allow me choose a smaller one for the sensors and a bigger one for the thermostat. I hope to have Over the Air updates one day. The main board with the drivers and relays can only accept my Devboards.

I have attached photos (excuse me for the size) of the development board using my custom ESP32 devboard with a local sensor and touch keyboard attached as well as the layout for the display board. I am currently working on getting the keyboard to work while I wait for the new PCBs. This is my first real SMT project. Thank God for toaster ovens! Note that the HV power supply is on this board. That has been moved to the display board on the new PCBs. At 100mm x 70mm, the boards for this are just small enough to squeeze into the 10 boards for $5.00 at PCBWay.com.
